Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods - really fresh fish. Enjoy ocean-side dining just steps from the New England Aquarium. Our restaurant couldn't be more convenient to the Financial District, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and waterfront hotels. We think a visit to Boston must include a meal at Legal Sea Foods. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there's no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We've received a boatload of accolades including "Most Popular Boston Restaurant" (Zagat, 2011/2012), "Best Seafood Restaurant" (Improper Bostonian, 2010), "Best Chowder" (Boston Magazine, 2010), "Best Seafood Restaurant" (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

This was nice and thick, like lobster pudding! Sooooo flavorful. Would have licked the bowl if no one was looking!

“Fresh seafood and good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2014

This restaurant was very busy the night we eat there. We had a reservation and it took them about ten minutes to seat us. Our server came by to say HI and that he would be right with us. A few minutes later he came with water and took our drink order. He gave us his recommendations for some things on the menu that he thought were very good. All of the food was very good. We received our order in an amount of time that was very fair considering how crowded the place was. We never felt rushed and all of our needs were taken care of. Legal Sea Food was as good as advertised, we would go back without question.

“Not what it once was”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2014

Visited on three occasions on recent visit and was quite disappointed by experience. I lived next door for years so am very familiar with this location in particular and the chain in general.
Clam chowder and dinner rolls are excellent and consistent as always but other items on menu were not as they once were. The Baked Stuffed Shrimp which was always one of their excellent signature dishes is now a few shrimp placed on top of a bitter and unappealing mixture of bread crumbs and chopped celery...mostly celery. It is obviously a cost and time cutting measure and tastes just that at a price that is far too high for what it is.
The french fries served with entrees on each visit were limp and at room temperature. Baked potato was good.
The room looks like a children's party just vacated it and staff seem harassed. Seating hosts were impersonal upon arrival and, aside from waiter on first evening, the rest of waitstaff seemed over-stretched and we had sense that our table was afterthought along with observation of other tables nearby who were looking for water, correcting orders etc. On two visits, we had to catch other waiters going-by for more water, drinks etc. Staff are clearly professionally trained but whether the crowds are too big or there is jaded sense towards high-tourist traffic ( lots of kids/next to aquarium etc), they seemed disinterested and programmed.
I would stop in again at off-peak times for chowder and rolls but would give rest a miss. It's a pity because the always delivered a consistent, high quality product in days of old.

“Good food, great location, good service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

We went for a late lunch, it was not busy and we were sat right away.
The decor was a little tired, chairs are chipped and beat up, carpet needs to be cleaned, light fixture broken, missing fitters, and speakers falling out of the ceiling.

The food, it was ok, chain restaurant food.
The wait staff and the bus staff were great, they help one another and take their jobs seriously.

I don't know about reservations, probably not, so plan accordingly
