Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods - really fresh fish. Enjoy ocean-side dining just steps from the New England Aquarium. Our restaurant couldn't be more convenient to the Financial District, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and waterfront hotels. We think a visit to Boston must include a meal at Legal Sea Foods. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there's no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We've received a boatload of accolades including "Most Popular Boston Restaurant" (Zagat, 2011/2012), "Best Seafood Restaurant" (Improper Bostonian, 2010), "Best Chowder" (Boston Magazine, 2010), "Best Seafood Restaurant" (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and was only a few minutes walk away. Being visitors we did not know it was part of a chain but it soon became obvious.

The place was pretty quiet so we were shown to a table right away. Formulaic menus handed out, drinks ordered. Our server came a while later and we asked for recommendations. Standard, unhelpful answer - everything is good. While he was speaking to us, another server came up and drew him away part way through a sentence (without apology) and then within earshot proceeded to tell him off for operating in her section.

Next thing we know, we have a new server (still no apology or explanation) and she launched into the standard spiel all over again, like nothing had happened. By this time, we knew this wouldn't get much better, so we quickly ordered fish and chips each - mine spicy, his not - and some wine.

The final disappointment - the fish was overcooked. Surely a seafood restaurant should know how to cook fish. Lucky we didn't get the lobster.

It's always great to walk around Fanieul Hall and the Pru around Christmas time. TO walk around the North End and water front is always great. Legal Sea Food is touristy but the food is always excellent. The Sea bass is wonderful, chowder is pretty good too...

Friday night after a walk around Quincy Market we wanted a bit to eat and so came here - I have eaten at Legal's other restaurants before.
We couldn't get a table straight away so opted to sit at the bar which was great as it was lively and there was lots going on.
Good food and a great selection of wine.
Not cheap but very good.
Fab service - the guys behind the bar certainly earn their wages!

If there is one place you should eat lobster, this is it. And prices are really affordable. Very nice service and really very good food. Wine list is also very interesting, but not cheap.

I'm a big fan of Legal Seafoods and have been to many of it's locations. This is my least favorite. Its a reasonable choice if you're going to the aquarium and need a place to eat (as I did). Otherwise, if you can get to a different one, much more enjoyable. Here it's crazy busy, and the dining experience suffers as a result. It's ok, but at this price point, and based on other locations, should be better... which is what you get at Copley Place or Prudential outposts. Closer to this one and also fine is their Harborside location on Northern Avenue.
