When we first saw this restaurant in the Internet, Trip Advisor indicated that it was #524 of 1553 restaurants in Boston. However, and when we clicked "update property details”, the information was that "The restaurant was closed". We called the restaurant and on the contrary, we discovered that in fact it was OPEN for business!
We had an exquisite dining experience on Oct.21, 2011.We ordered vegetarian entrees: Bean Curd Casserole and Baby Bok Choy with Bean Curd (see photo), vegetarian spring rolls for appetizer and two glasses of Merlot. We were treated to an authentic, fresh, delicious and well- prepared Chinese vegetarian feast. The service was excellent. The ambience was excellent compared to other similar restaurants in this area where we have to choose between ambience and quality of food. The price of our meal was most reasonable. Overall, we had a wonderful culinary experience. We believe that the New Shanghai Restaurant is indeed the 'The New Best Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown Boston".

Went here for lunch with a few colleagues. There were 8 of us and we ordered a combo meal which included 8 or 9 different plates of food.

The meal started with some jellyfish and a spicy beef salad. Next came an egg drop-like soup with tofu in it. The remainder of the meal was different meat dishes with a bit of a spicy kick to it. Overall, we were well fed and enjoyed the unique experience of trying different kinds of Szechaun cuisine.

The service was fine, no issues and the whole meal was to the tune of $125. The restaurant seemed clean and it was moderately busy.

I'd say this is a safe bet for some Szechuan.

Lots of chinese people, always a good sign. Extensive menu, good portions and decent food. Very cheap, soup appetizer and main plus a beer for like 16 bucks
