This is a great hotel which is perfectly placed for sightseeing. The staff are incredibly friendly and after finding out it was our honeymoon, arranged an upgrade to the room and then sent up Prosecco, Truffles and fresh Strawberries, all topped off with a congratulations card signed by the staff.

The room was spacious and the bed very comfy - perfect for tired feet after walking the freedom trail. Very clean.

We did not eat at the hotel for breakfast as we preferred to eat out but we did grab a snack on a couple of evenings from the bar - all very tasty although pricey as expected for a hotel bar. My husband also particularly liked the complimentary fresh juices available in the lounge - especially the iced tea!

The bonus is that this hotel offers free WIFI access for all guests for up to 2 devices - this is far better that many of the larger more corporate hotel chains. Highly recommended hotel and the staff are an abolsulte credit.

great room, great staff (other than the breakfast room) and a great city. Good location to wander around from so take some comfy shoes.
Lovely city as well (better than NYC in our view) and wish we had spent more time in boston and less in new york

Excellent location on a street that is not too busy but just a short walk away from Boylston St, Newbury St and trams. Excellent base for a business or pleasure visit to Boston. Helpful and efficient staff. Rooms are very nice and it's due to be closed & refurbished later this year. The bar and foyer are relatively small so it might not be the best location if you intend to spend a lot of time hanging around the hotel itself.

We booked the Boston Back Bay last year, for our trip this month. This is when it was part of the Doyle Collection, so was a little dubious when Loews took the hotel over, as we had no knowledge of the group. We arrived on Thursday 26th September, hungry & jet-lagged and was met with very friendly staff at the desk. They were courteous, and got us checked in quickly. When arriving at our room, it was clear there had been a mix up with our booking as there were 2 single beds, rather than the King that we had wanted. We rang the desk, who swiftly organised for us to be moved to the correct room. We were thankful that they had a King room available else it would have put a dampener on the stay. Let me stress that the booking error was a communication error between Virgin & The Doyle Collection when we first booked in Nov last year.

Our Room was very spacious, and always kept very clean by the cleaning staff. The bathroom was roomy, and the shower was excellent. The bath was really shallow, so only used that once. The decor was a little out dated, but given that it was kept so clean that wasn't really an issue in the end.

The food. Well, what can I say about the food?! It was excellent! We had breakfast & dinner there on several occasions. The staff in Cuffs (the bar) were always very attentive, which made it hard to say no to another drink. The bar always looked clean too & the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food & drink.

There were really only a couple of things that were disappointing (hence a 4 rating & not 5). The room we had was quite noisy all through the night. It can't be helped that it was noisy outside, you'd expect that probably wherever you stay in the city. It was the noise from the staff telephone right outside our door, that would ring loudly quite early in the morning and the cleaning staff congregating outside the room chatting loudly early in the morning. The phone would ring between 5.30-6.30 am (not every morning though), an the staff would appear a bit later than that. With that, and the jet lag is was hard to get a full good nights sleep for our entire stay. Our room also had one of those strange connecting doors, to the next room - so we could hear everything going on next door.

On our check out on Oct 7th, the lady that checked us out didn't ask us whether we'd had a good stay, which I found unusual. We'd spent so much time at the hotel, and so much money that it would have been nice to know they enjoyed having us, as much as we enjoyed staying.

All in all though, a very enjoyable stay. We would come back, and Boston is an incredible city. Those of you who are yet to visit are in for a treat!

Having travelled to Boston many times for business and leisure, I usually stay closer to the Prudential Center/Copley Square at the Marriott-Copley, Westin, Sheraton, or Copley Square Hotel. This time, I tried Loews at it is rated fairly high on Trip Advisor. It is in the Back Bay but not as conveniently located to traffic, shops and restaurants. Its near the John Hancock and office buildings, so somewhat deserted and dark at night. There are several restaurants on the same block, but these tend to be upscale (Grill 23)and not places for a single female to comfortably dine. The Arlington T stop, the closest T stop is also about three blocks and at night rather deserted and dark.

The rooms are very spacious, clean and basic but the location makes this a one-time visit for this traveller unless travelling with a companion/ unless super rates are offered.

The room service was excellent. Their regular restaurant, Stanhope, was apparently closed for renovations but a room service dinner one night was very good. Salmon, crab cakes and a lobster roll- as good as any fine dining restaurant and very prompt!! The room service prices were also not extraordinarily high. Did not try the pub downstairs.

Room Tip: Inner room on a middle floor was quiet and insulated from noise on street.

The hotel was changed its name from Back Bay Hotel in early this year. We booked through an agent that we didn't know the name was changed is it was a bit difficult to find. But the hotel is really big, if u have the correct name, you won't miss it. Service is excellent as all the staff are very helpful and friendly. There are many restaurants within this area, Copley Square. Room is big and bedding is so comfortable. Coffee machine in the room is easy to operate. Only the bottle water is overcharged too much.
