I am a big fan of cupcakes, but with most places they are typically on the drier side. The cupcakes at Izzy's were moist and just melted in your mouth. Certainly a great birthday cupcake as they are very tasty and big. I only had one but will be looking to try out more the next time I'm in town.

You know how there are cupcakes that really need the frosting to make them palatable, or vice versa? The cupcakes at Curly Cakes are so delicious that they could (probably) be eaten w/out frosting...but why would you do that? I had the most amazing maple, butter, pecan (walnut?), cupcake/frosting ever. More than likely an entire stick of butter just on my one cupcake alone--but who's counting? Not a hint of gritty sugar or greasy, filmy, mouthfill in the frosting--and I am not usually a frosting person. The cupcake was moist, not too dense and not too sweet. While I was in the shop there were people on a Boston cupcake crawl--next time I will sign up for one of those! One of the best parts, though, was seeing the line outside Georgetown cupcakes, later in the day, and knowing that truly, how on earth could anything be better than what I had had for an unexpected breakfast (no comments!)

When I think of a good cupcake, I think of moist cake, soft icing and delicious flavors (like red velvet with cream cheese frosting). Isabella's has it! Though, I didnt go as often as I like, I loved the red velvet and the chocolate mint. The cupcakes are cute and big, so great to share. And totally fresh, which is more than I can say for other shops!

I'm not one for the cupcake-fad - it seems like there's a new cupcakery popping up on every corner. In my experience, many of them have been sub-par, and really not worth the inflated price I'm paying for what is basically an elaborate slice of cake. Usually the cupcake is too dense or dry, and the frosting is heavy and overwhelming. However, Curly Cakes is hands down the best cupcake I've had. Both cupcake and frosting are light and fluffy, and it totally hit the spot. It didn't feel heavy or too rich (and I had the chocolate and peanut butter cupcake). Absolutely worth stopping in when you're craving a treat! They also have flourless cakes, and I believe a vegan option was available as well.
