“Nice hotel near Fenway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

A really nice hotel above the Kenmore subway stop and near Fenway Park.

I was able to get a good deal on the room and everything went smoothly except for wifi access. In my room I was unable to get the wifi to work with either of my two iOS devices. The devices worked fine in the lobby, but not in my room. This was a bit annoying, but I had an android device that did work, so it wasn't too bad. Usually this can be resolved by restarting a router, but I don't think they did anything even after I complained about it.

The Hotel Commonwealth is a boutique hotel in a lovely neighbourhood, about a block from Fenway Park, and in the Boston University area. it is a great place to stay, with large rooms that are stylishly decorated, an Oyster Bar and Restaurant that are on the top of the Trip Advisor list of places to eat in Boston, and a subway stop next door, making all of Boston easily accessible. There's a Starbucks in the building and a Barnes and Noble bookshop across the street. The hotel is quiet, even though it is on busy Commonwealth Avenue. The doormen greet you by name when you enter and exit, and the housekeeping staff is cheerful and pleasant.

Room Tip: Great views from executive suites facing Commonwealth Avenue.

I live in New York and often visit family in Boston. This time, I stayed at the Hotel Commonwealth at 500 Commonwealth Avenue. Wow! Beautiful, immaculately clean rooms, spacious with a flurry of amenities, convenient business center where I printed out my boarding passes easily, very efficient and professional front desk/concierge and staff throughout the hotel including housekeeping were friendly and helpful. It was fantastic and I would not stay anywhere else when I visit Boston! Loved it!!

Room Tip: The junior suite was heavenly with a large sitting room and pullaway sofa. TV's in both rooms...

I booked this hotel through a discount website and was surprised by the quality of the hotel for the price I paid. They've skipped the opulent lobby and put the money into the rooms. Their service was also quite good. While this may not be a flat out 5 star hotel, the very small things that it lacks (such as an opulent lobby), are not worth the difference in room rate between this hotel and a 5 star hotel. As someone who used to live in Boston, I also found the location to be very convenient.

Nice location close to Boston University and Fenway Park. VERY expensive even at a discounted rate. Rooms are clean and comfortable, but, for the money a very poor deal.
Service satisfactory. Close to great restaurants.

Upon check in at the Hotel Commonwealth, I realized I booked the wrong dates. It was a full house and we had already valet parked the car and brought in a lot of luggage/instruments etc. The manager at the Commonwealth found us a room at The Eliot - their sister property and stored most of our luggage for us until the next day. I thought I left my computer bag at the Eliot and both hotels were incredibly helpful finding it. I needed a space to host a last second music video and the Commonwealth allowed us to use the Gallery (a beautiful space in their hotel). The rooms were spacious and close to everything. By the time we left we were on first name basis with everyone that worked at the hotel. They offered us bottled water and brought additional pillows and were absolutely awesome. The hotel has card coded elevators for safety and an amazing restaurant. Room service was available late and we felt VERY taken care of in this hotel. We will be staying here a lot.

Room Tip: They were all amazing. no noise.

The Commonwealth Hotel offers a great quality product at a fair price in one of America's most expensive hotel cities. Despite not being on the main drag, I enjoyed the short walk there as a way of getting some exercise and also found the metro outside the front door a real bonus! Its of course Red Sox headquarters smack bang next to Fenway Park which I imagine might change the prices in Baseball season, but after the season, I thought it was great value for money- top facilities. Two things that could be improved. The aircon/ heating didn't regulate properly on auto-function and I woke up every 2 hours during the night due to overheating, needing to wake up the sensor to let it know someone was in the room and to switch back on! The Eastern Standard Restaurant was a disappointment. Didn't have a single good meal there ( ate there 3 times over 4 days- once for dinner, once for lunch and last day for breakfast) Service was so-so.
