“Local gem”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Lambert's Rainbow Fruit is a popular local institution for good reason. I visit Lambert's at least weekly, sometimes more often especially in the summer. They have a great variety of very fresh fruits and veggies, cheeses, and some frozen foods - nothing exotic but most of what one would normally buy for a family. They have a great deli counter from which they make fresh sandwiches to order, very generous, and serve fresh soups in cold weather. There is a small variety of interesting breads from local bakeries. A fresh salad bar is popular year round. There is a small section for canned goods, mostly Italian sauces, oils, olives, tomatoes, etc. and a wide array of pastas as well. Outside, I like to browse the seasonal planters of perennials and annuals or sit at one of the tables in the nicer weather. They are in the parking lot, so it's not picturesque, but if you are short on time to have a bite, they fit the bill. Have dessert at the ice cream stand next door.

“Hordes of locals every day -- hidden gem in Dorchester”
Reviewed March 8, 2012

Lambert's is a wonderful old family grocery and fruit stand that is well known in Dorchester -- just north of Neponset Circle off Morrissey, it has a thriving lunch business. You will see hordes of locals heading there every day for the generous, fresh, made-to-order sandwiches, hot dishes, and salad bar. Your choice of different breads, meats, cheeses -- it's worth a visit. No tables in the store, but plenty of picnic tables when the weather is nice.
