Excellent hotel. Very friendly staff who were always keen to help. We stayed on the 9th floor and had a great view towards Mas State house. Really helpful front of house staff in particularly Patricia who kindly helped with printing of directions and recommendations. The concierge was helpful as well and got us great tickets for the Celtics. The wine reception was excellent too.

I recently spent one night of a business trip at the Nine Zero, one of the Kimptons in Boston. It was my second stay at this hotel. This is the typically nice, well-maintained Kimpton, a boutique chain I stay at fairly often for its eclectic decor, clean, well-appointed rooms, friendly, professional staff and trendy, but not intrusive ambiance. However, the team responsible for property location really got it wrong with this one.

The hotel is shoe-horned into an alley fronted by Tremont Street and abutting a building behind it. At 4:30 every morning, a garbage truck backs up into the alley (beep, beep, beep) to load and haul away the trash. Then, when you think its finally over, the glass bottles are picked up and emptied into the truck. Being awake, you will then hear at least one other garbage truck doing the same thing nearby. It is after 5:00 by the time the trucks leave.

The first time I stayed at the hotel, my room was on the 9th floor facing the alley, which amplified the noise. This time, I requested a room as far away from the alley as possible. I was given a 7th floor room in the far corner of the hotel away from the alley and the street. Despite this, I was still woken up by the racket. Conclusion: regardless of the room, it is likely you will hear the garbage trucks - even if you are a sound sleeper; only the volume will vary. As such, while a fan of the Kimpton concept, I cannot recommend this hotel due to its unfortunate location.

Room Tip: If you can sleep through virtually any noise, still as for a room on a high floor as far away from t...

Dear TheWriter77,

The property location team would probably feel awful about this if they read it. They thought they had struck gold with a hotel centrally located on Beacon Hill, adjacent to 4 lines of the Boston subway system, 15 minutes from the airport, right on the Freedom Trail, within walking distance of the Newbury Street, Fanueil Hall, and the North End, and even located on the same street the Governor's Mansion used to be on...but they can't get them all right I guess. We would love to have you come back. There are two whole other sides of the building you have to try (with our queen bedded ooms primarily on those sides). If those don't work, the Marlowe is in Cambridge and it's definitely quiet on that side of the river.

Wishing you a quiet night's rest.

Mark

Stayed here in for a quick Saturday night getaway with the hubby back in November 2012. I messed up the reservation (they didn't have one for me, my fault completely) but graciously dealt with my mini-meltdown and were able to give us a nice king size room with a view of the State Building. Happy hour had just ended but they still offered us a glass a wine. The reception area is very small and there is not real bar or on site restaurant (thus my title on limited amenities) and so the room service menu was very limited. But there are many great restaurants, both high end and casual, within an easy walk. We ate a high end dinner at Moooo right around the corner and went for Irish breakfast at Mr. Dooley's, an easy walk. The room size was typical for a Kimpton/Boston hotel, nicely appointed.

Great location...minutes to many points of interest. The front desk staff were particularly helpful and welcoming. Our room was excellent and we got our car within 10 minutes. Will definitely look for other Kimptons in future.

We stayed for 7 nights with a king sized bed. The hotel is in a great location with easy access to 2 "subway" lines and within walking distance of North end, Back Bay. There are good restaurants nearby and a great pub two steps from the front door. The room cleaning was a little haphazard, but that was a minor quibble in the scheme of things. By becoming a member (for free) of the hotel there was complimentary wifi. Like most hotels, breakfast was expensive but room service was pretty reasonable. We would stay again.

Really nice queen room. Spectacular view from 19th floor. Great free cocktail reception from 5 - 6pm. Even though on the 19th floor, it was a Saturday night and a little too loud at 2am! People yelling on the street and lots of sirens.
