We stayed two nights at the beginning of a tour of new England. Room was quiet and bed comfortable. The staff, especially concierge, were always helpful and charming. The wine reception was extremely welcome after a long day of sight seeing. Set us up nicely for our holiday

Dear DaisySails,

Sounds like a great holiday - New England is so diverse (Cape, Boston, mountains) - each could easily be a vacation on its own. Thank you for staying with us!

Take care,

Mark

Having stayed at the Nine Zero's sister property in Boston, The Onyx Hotel, a few years ago, we knew how great the Kimpton chain is. We also knew how accommodating they are of "four legged furry" guests. We didn't know that our expectations would be completely blown away at our recent one night stay at Nine Zero.

We were torn about returning to The Onyx or trying something new. Since we only were in the city for one night, we decided to check out a different part of town. Nine Zero's location couldn't be beat, especially for guests traveling with dogs. Being right across the street from the Boston Common was amazing! Our dog (and we) loved strolling in the park with the greenery and fall colors. Add to that the fact that we were steps away from some fantastic shopping such as the Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW), Macy's, etc. The hotel is also within a short walk to the Quincy Market, North End and Newbury Street. The Freedom Trail, subway, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops are all right outside the hotel's entrance.

Prior to checking in, we had a take out lunch picnic outside Regina Pizzeria in the North End. We loved our dinner there in 2009 and HAD to fit it in this time around too! That said, we like trying different places so we made reservations at Grotto for dinner, a 10 minute walk from Nine Zero. We loved cosy, buzzy Grotto and their delicious prix fix menu. Grotto review to follow. We popped into the 21st Amendment for an after dinner night cap and we're glad we did. It was Friday night and the traditional pub was packed. Our bill for two bevies there was shockingly inexpensive and service and ambience were fun for a casual evening out.

We booked a King Premier room and it was huge compared to those in most city hotels. It wasn't much more expensive than the basic room category and gave the three of us loads of space. While the view from our 10th floor room faced the side street and not the park, we didn't mind at all. With only one night to enjoy Boston's sights and sounds, we were pretty much only in the room to enjoy a pre-dinner bevy and sleep. And oh, what a sleep! The bed and pillows were divine! I'm considering buying some of the bedding so we can snooze in luxury at home.

All of the other Kimpton amenities and treats were found in abundance here: lobby wine reception, the comfy plush robes, quirky items available for purchase in-room like fluffy socks and a $10 stainless steel yo-yo. Haha! We are Kimpton in-Touch members and thus enjoyed the $10 mini bar credit and free Wi-Fi. The fact that a dog bed and bowls were in our room upon arrival was over the top. They just didn't miss a beat!

What sets this hotel aside is how truly genuinely friendly the staff were. From the moment we dropped our car off with the fun guys at valet to the moment we checked out at which point our dog was rewarded with a treat by the cheerful front desk staff, we were impressed. I can tell these employees enjoy their work environment and value their guests. And they made our dog feel like a celebrity. We all had a ball during our brief visit. I was left wishing we had time to enjoy a much longer stay.

We simply loved everything about our visit. The decor, the location, cleanliness, ambient music in the lobby, the attention to detail whilst traveling with a dog... I really can't think of a single thing they need to improve. Luggage delivery, valet, check in, check out, etc were all quick and efficient.

Would we return? You betcha! In all fairness, we loved The Onyx too and recommend it if you're attending an event or game at The TD Garden. But to be honest, we'd probably choose Nine Zero first if the price was right thanks to the staff and location. You can't go wrong with any Kimpton hotel, in my opinion!

One question for the staff though... We checked out on Saturday, October 6th on a day when the Denver Broncos were in town playing against Boston's New England Patriots. We noticed that Nine Zero staff were all wearing Broncos shirts. Such an unexpected sight as everyone knows how patriotic and loyal Boston fans are to their teams! LOL! Just curious what that was about... Did someone lose a bet? ;) Either way, thanks for the fabulous stay. We - and our Wheaten Terrier - will be back!

Room Tip: King Premier rooms are very spacious with large bathrooms.

Dear TheCanuckChick,

Wow!

Mark

P.S. We were lucky to host some rabid Broncos supporters who asked us to help them feel more at home in "enemy territory". The only bets lost were those on the actual game.

Having read all the reviews we were expecting something special for our 4 night stay and we weren't disappointed. The staff were all friendly and helpful, Thomas, the concierge, was very helpful, made some excellent suggestions for dinner and managed to get us a table at some very busy and popular restuarants. He also suggested lots of things for us to do during the day. The hotel is in an excellent location with many of the attractions within walking distance and also the 'T' station is very nearby. Our room was spacious, the bed ensured a good night's sleep. The initial view from the window was the air conditioning unit of the building opposite, however past that was the Boston skyline which was impressive especially at night. The complimentary wine evening hour is a nice touch. With our hotel package we had complementary breakfast which was good. If I had one negative comment (and it is difficult to have one) is that it would have been good if the hotel had its own bar.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have better views

Dear Scotchick2,

Thank you for staying with us on your recent trip through Boston.

You are 100% right. Looking into the Back Bay from our vantage point near Beacon Hill is really amazing at night. Usually in the fall you can see the lights of playoff games at Fenway. Not this year...

Our apologies about the bar. Luckily, there are some great bar options just outside the hotel's door (and the honor bar is as full as any I have ever seen).

Best,

Mark

We stayed for 2 nights on what appeared to be a busy weekend in Boston. The location is a real plus as you are across the street from one of the cemeteries on the Freedom Trail and less than 15 minutes to the Long Wharf or North End. The Commons is right around the corner. I really can't say much else about the hotel other than the place was clean and service was fine. The concierge answered questions, but didn't offer much insight or options. In general, staff were professional. Would I go back? Only if I got a bargain rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a floor above the 11th facing Tremont if possible for a good view.

Dear MisterEOso,

Thank you for staying with us on your recent trip to Boston. I do apologize for the letdown from our Concierge. It is quite surprising as those guys are typically really dialed in. I assure you that is not the norm. if you join our InTouch program - you will have the opportunity to book a lot of discounted rates for Nine Zero (and all Kimpton Hotels for that matter - including the 4 great ones in Chicago).

Regards,

Mark

My husband and I stayed here for one night after a cruise from Quebec City to Boston. It was a stylish, comfortable hotel in a great location opposite the Boston Common. Most of the historic sites were within walking distance. We were even able to check out the harbour and public gardens on foot. Pretty good for a couple of seniors! The staff at the hotel were very helpful and I had the the best breakfast ever in their restaurant. The granola with yoghurt and fresh fruit followed by French toast with bananas baked in maple syrup was to die for!

Room Tip: A room on a higher floor overlooking Tremont Street is best.

Dear pricewyke,

Thank you for visiting Beautiful Boston! You are right on - when reading your itinerary I was definitely thinking "these could not be seniors". And the size of your breakfasts was what a teenage boy would order! But of course, at any age, Boston is a tremendous walking city, and with the breakfast menu in the cafe - it is really hard NOT to order more.

Happy travels,

Mark
