“Perfect Lunch or Snack Stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

We stopped here in Fanueil Hall before a Freedom Trail Tour. It was fun walking around the old meets new market and checking out the shops. We grabbed a bowl of clam chowder which was quick and good for the value, with generous portions. I'm sure it's nice to eat it outside, but we enjoyed eating inside surrounded by people watching.

“Skip the lobster roll”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

I saw a queue for this in Quincy Market and decided to get its lobster roll set. The lobster roll was horrible as bread was hard as stone and lobster meat given was very little (compared to james hook's lobster roll which was great). The chowder was average as well.

I didn't have really high hopes for chowda served in Faneiul hall, but Boston Chowda had some of the best chowder I've ever had!

“A great lobster roll!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

Some might argue that there is no such thing as an un-great lobster roll, but too much mayo, an average bread roll, pre-made rolls, or skimpy meat can kill what should be great. This place avoided all of the above. I happened to get there when they needed to make a roll fresh. The roll was fresh and not pre-cut. The mayo was light, and the chunks of lobster were good-sized and plentiful.
This was actually an unnecessary indulgence stop. I just had a mid-afternoon craving for a lobster roll. Lobster rolls are general expensive these days; most places, like this, charging $14-$16. I wouldn't go for a roll in the one place I spotted advertising a $9 roll - it probably doesn't have much lobster. I made up for the cost by getting a "Special" that got me the roll with a lobster bisque and small drink, for about $3 extra. The soup was pretty good.
Like the rest of the places in the Market Place, dining is either in the variably crowded rotunda in the center of the building, or on an outside bench.
I liked this place and would try it again. I rated the atmosphere as very good because it's historic and great people-watching. It's loud but not so much that you can't converse comfortably.

“Quick, delicious and good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013 via mobile

The chowda was the best we had while in Boston perfect consistency with excellent taste. Lobster roll good. Bread was thick so I ate half with lobster on it and the other half of the roll with no lobster on it. The bread part of the lobster roll was very good tasted like homemade bread. Sat upstairs and enjoyed a good meal for the price of the tip in a nearby restaurant.
