Compared to other Ritz-Carlton hotels and other 5 star hotels in Boston, this hotel falls short. Located between Downtown Crossing and Chinatown, it's hardly worth the trek. And as with other Ritz-Carlton hotels, one would expect a certain level of attention, formality, and sophistication. Instead, upon arrival, we were greeted with an abrasive "Hey! Howwahya?" by the casual front desk staff. The lobby and overall atmosphere is very basic. Actually, there is nothing really opulent, as one might expect at a Ritz. Further, the rooms are nothing more than a standard hotel room, similar to Marriott (nice bedding, decent amenities), but nothing else.

If considering a luxury, 5 star hotel, I would strongly recommend the Four Seasons, Taj, or Mandarin Oriental, where one instantly feels you've arrived, will be well taken cared for, and are much better situated.

We stayed in Boston for a fun couple weekend after the holidays with the family and we're very disappointed. First our room wasn't ready even at 4:30pm!they gave us a tiny roo. With double beds and views of the roof. The Residence on the harbor has better views! The staff was pushy and rude, especially the bellman and we found the concierge condescending. I travel several days a week and stayed on points Nd would never stay here again. Stay at a Marriott, the service, views and food are better!

Room Tip: Tiny rooms

The Ritz-Carlton is a wonderful hotel in Boston. The rooms were immaculate and the service is unbeatable. Everyone who worked there from the doormen, maids, etc were so friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze, beds were very comfortable (could even chose your pillow preference) and the room was spotless. They took the time to learn our names and were able to complete any task we asked of them during our stay. Great time!

If you're in the mood for special treatment in an overnight stay, the service at the Ritz Carlton on the Common, especially the Club Floor amenities and service, are unmatched. The personal, individualized treatment, elegance of staff, their manners, attention to detail, the way they treat customers in every way, the generous Club food and oasis, is what life should be like, and defines what is a rare luxury even more than physical things like amenities and fabulous food which certainly also abound at this property. We also enjoyed the great Bose sound system and jumbo marble tub in our room. The building sidestreet and modern architecture lack of aesthetics aren't like the former Ritz building, but once inside, the service makes up for that, and the location on the Common, at the theater district and metro stations are just as good.

During our stay we walked over to the beautiful old Ritz Carlton building - now the Taj - at the other end of the Boston Common-Public Garden, and had the opposite experience in the restaurant. Terrible maitre d', even ordering bottles of champagne and having a special event celebration, the staff was cold, impersonal, was nowhere to be found, and late to bring out the orders. Conversely, at the Ritz Carlton, from the moment you enter the property and check in, the treatment is divine!

I had a huge corner room, with very good views of the city scape. Very light as windows were huge. Bed was very comfortable indeed and the shower was excellent. Fortunately I had time for breakfast at the hotel and I can recommend the 3 egg omelette, very tasty indeed. Boston had a very nice feel to it, in my view, and coped brilliantly with the snow, where London would have ground to a halt Boston carried on as if the snow was not there.

If this weren't the Ritz in Boston, it would get a higher rating. The fact is, however, that this Ritz, no matter how nice, is a shadow of the former Ritz-Carlton mothership facing the Public Gardens (now the Taj). For my $220, I got a room that was very nice, but on a long, somewhat personality-less hallway. The room was quiet, and everything functioned--plumbing, bed, internet, electronics, etc.--just fine. Downstairs, the lobby is weird--you enter directly to the reception desks, with little space to congregate and/or meet people. Just beyond the reception desks is the bar, so there is no waiting space or meeting space, other than in a bar--very odd. The restaurant is distinctly second-rate insofar as selection is concerned--for brunch, for example, on the weekend, one could see more alternatives at a diner. There are no vegetarian or vegan options, as another observation. Another negative is the location--this place is on a nondescript side street--very un-Ritz. When I compare to other first rank Ritz's worldwide, such as in London, Paris, or the old Boston Ritz, this place technically is quite ok, but has absolutely no soul. Put it differently, I doubt you will remember your experience here as a singular or a romantic standout. It is nice, but pedestrian.

The R-C Hotel in Boston has great rooms, good beds and a central location overlooking the park (if you have room on the right side of the hotel). There is only one snach, the a/c's in the rooms are very noisy and goes on and off every 5 minutes or so. The hotel guests have access to a huge and impressive sportsclub located on the fourth floor. You should also check ot the Artisan Bistro on the ground floor for good New England seafood. Overall, a relatively expensive but nice hotel (but bring something to put in your ears if you want to sleep uninterupted)
