If you're in the mood for special treatment in an overnight stay, the service at the Ritz Carlton on the Common, especially the Club Floor amenities and service, are unmatched. The personal, individualized treatment, elegance of staff, their manners, attention to detail, the way they treat customers in every way, the generous Club food and oasis, is what life should be like, and defines what is a rare luxury even more than physical things like amenities and fabulous food which certainly also abound at this property. We also enjoyed the great Bose sound system and jumbo marble tub in our room. The building sidestreet and modern architecture lack of aesthetics aren't like the former Ritz building, but once inside, the service makes up for that, and the location on the Common, at the theater district and metro stations are just as good.
During our stay we walked over to the beautiful old Ritz Carlton building - now the Taj - at the other end of the Boston Common-Public Garden, and had the opposite experience in the restaurant. Terrible maitre d', even ordering bottles of champagne and having a special event celebration, the staff was cold, impersonal, was nowhere to be found, and late to bring out the orders. Conversely, at the Ritz Carlton, from the moment you enter the property and check in, the treatment is divine!More
