“Degfinitely more Business, but still nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

The room was very nice, though no doubt rooms on the ninth floor above the opulent sports club are susceptible to noise from dropping weights at 630AM. There really isn't a lobby, per se, and you are really on a side street off the beaten path, but the staff was very attentive and helpful and the bar was like something designed for the set of Mad Men. I include the housekeeping especially in this staff attentiveness as we never wanted or waited for anything in the room.

We just returned from a great trip to Boston, and stayed three nights at the Ritz in an executive suite. The room is a great size, and had a partial view of the Commons. Double doors separate the bedroom area from a living room that has a desk, fold-out couch, and flat screen tv.

Our first room was 972. Please note if you are a light sleeper or are on West Coast time, this room might be an issue for you. We were awoken around 6:15 a.m. by the sound of odd thuds that turned out to be free weights and workout equipment - this particular room is over the Sporting Club - a very nice workout facility that you can use for $15 a day. If we had been in Boston for work it might not have been an issue, but we are from the Southern California, so 6:15 is 3:15 a.m. our time, plus we were in town for vacation, not work. If you are a deep sleeper or plan to get up early, this room has a great view of the Commons. I think most people are at the hotel for business, so the convenience of a full-service gym (with pool) would be a huge plus.

The staff were great, and moved us to a similar room on the opposite side of the hotel, one floor up. We lost the view, but gained more sleep. A perfect compromise, which we appreciate. I am rating the sleep quality based on the 2nd and 3rd nights, as the beds (and bedding) were fantastic and our sleep the first night was actually wonderful until early morning.

The location is right off the Boston Commons on Avery Street, with two T (Metro) stops very nearby - convenient to everything). We took the T or walked everywhere, including to Fenway for a night ball game (beware - leave for the game early and eat at the ballpark or in Kenmore Square area, as the T is VERY, VERY crowded on game nights).

The breakfast at Artisan was very good, and we got room service two mornings which was super. Our kids particularly enjoyed the chocolate pancakes (who wouldn't?!?).

The concierge also gave us spot-on recommendations for dinner. The staff really is stellar. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and we would definitely stay here again, albeit on a higher floor away from the gym.

This hotel has none of the qualities I expect at a Rtiz. The air conditioning system went on and off every two minutes and sounded as if it was the same type you would find at a Motel 6. When we checked in the room was not ready and the front desk associate said they would call when the room was ready. They did not. The wireless internet did not work in the room and they were unable to fix it.
Poor maintenance and service. At these prices very poor value. We have stayed at most of the top hotels in Boston and this is the absolute worst.

Professional service. Bar staff very engaging and friendly. Great location near the Common. We were able to get to transport facilities very quickly and easily. Room was well laid out and comfortable.

I have stayed at most of the nation's Ritz properties, and I agree with some reviewers than this is not one of the shining lights of the Ritz constellation. But for a business traveler, it is is perfectly situated hotel with consistently warm and personalized service. Best of all, it has access to what is no doubt the best gym in Boston.

The Club Lounge is very expensive, but the staff there is always fantastic.

Service is exceptional at this hotel. Check in was a breeze and a pleasurable experience with Steve at reception. Everyone throughout the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Even our server at the lounge was familiar with gluten free options of vodka, which is basically unheard of.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable with plenty of storage and extra large bathrooms. Wish I would've had time for a bath in the luxurious looking tub (bath menu provided). All things you would expect from the Ritz...nice robes, luxurious linens, fluffy towels, nice bath amenities. The location is good...convenient to the theater district, Boston Common, restaurants, and T access. Loved the feel of the intimate hallways when walking to our room, complete with peacock feathers!

This is a smaller hotel, so dining and drinking options are limited. Also, at these prices, we would expect to get Internet service in the rooms and gym privileges at no extra charge...not so. Also gave a lower score on cleanliness because I was surprised to find the lobby restroom desperately in need of attention one evening!

Stayed here with a bunch of colleagues for a very tightly scheduled series of meetings, check in was a breeze, welcome team left you warm as toast considering the raging blizzard just outside the entrance. Of course the pickup car was late for the first meeting, no fear cried the door man as he dashed out into what I'd imagine were snow drifts on the streets of Boston to pluck a car from the nearest bush, in short we arrived for our meeting on time. I remember the Ritz Carlton with a smile.
