We just returned from a great trip to Boston, and stayed three nights at the Ritz in an executive suite. The room is a great size, and had a partial view of the Commons. Double doors separate the bedroom area from a living room that has a desk, fold-out couch, and flat screen tv.
Our first room was 972. Please note if you are a light sleeper or are on West Coast time, this room might be an issue for you. We were awoken around 6:15 a.m. by the sound of odd thuds that turned out to be free weights and workout equipment - this particular room is over the Sporting Club - a very nice workout facility that you can use for $15 a day. If we had been in Boston for work it might not have been an issue, but we are from the Southern California, so 6:15 is 3:15 a.m. our time, plus we were in town for vacation, not work. If you are a deep sleeper or plan to get up early, this room has a great view of the Commons. I think most people are at the hotel for business, so the convenience of a full-service gym (with pool) would be a huge plus.
The staff were great, and moved us to a similar room on the opposite side of the hotel, one floor up. We lost the view, but gained more sleep. A perfect compromise, which we appreciate. I am rating the sleep quality based on the 2nd and 3rd nights, as the beds (and bedding) were fantastic and our sleep the first night was actually wonderful until early morning.
The location is right off the Boston Commons on Avery Street, with two T (Metro) stops very nearby - convenient to everything). We took the T or walked everywhere, including to Fenway for a night ball game (beware - leave for the game early and eat at the ballpark or in Kenmore Square area, as the T is VERY, VERY crowded on game nights).
The breakfast at Artisan was very good, and we got room service two mornings which was super. Our kids particularly enjoyed the chocolate pancakes (who wouldn't?!?).
The concierge also gave us spot-on recommendations for dinner. The staff really is stellar. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and we would definitely stay here again, albeit on a higher floor away from the gym.
