“Wonderful Hotel”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

We were here in February 2013. It snowed and was beautiful. We ice skated on Frog Pond in the Boston Common.
The location is close to many dining and entertainment options.
The staff is very courteous and informed. No detail was overlooked.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of The Common.

I just stayed at the Ritz in Boston and had a very good experience check-in and out was smooth and no waiting. The location is perfect for financial meetings and my conference was also held there. The quality of the Conference meals was only exceeded by the quality of their service. My room was very tastefully decorated and all amenities were high quality. The bath was quite large and the shower was exceptional. The Ritz has partnered with a high end athletic club that provides direct access from the hotel with no additional fee. Best hotel I have stayed in on multiple visits to Boston!

I stayed here for four nights from 4/7/2013 - 4/11/2013. Quickie review for those who have no patience for my sometimes lengthy musings: Great hotel in a great location with great "ladies and gentlemen" serving you. Highly recommended.

Now, for the full review...

In typical Ritz fashion, I was warmly welcomed to the hotel by a Doorman the moment I stepped out of my cab. Registration at this hotel occurs whilst seated at an actual desk. The setup makes for a more personal experience. Check-in was fast and flawless. Before I knew it, Michael, the Front Desk Agent, was escorting me to the tower elevators. Despite the quick nature of the check-in, the Agent was adept at meaningfully engaging via conversation. All in all, it was one of the better arrival experiences I've ever had.

The room was very well-maintained. Nary a blemish existed. Exceedingly spacious bathroom. And the bed... very, very comfortable! Housekeeping-wise, morning and turndown services were always perfect.

I stayed at this hotel as an attendee of the 2013 Total Customer Experience Leaders Summit. The meetings experience was mostly great. A/V was flawless. Rooms were setup nicely. And the food was fantastic! The only hiccup involved the HVAC system. For some reason, it was either freezing cold or swelteringly hot. The system couldn't find a balance.

Despite the HVAC issue in the meeting spaces, this Ritz is not-so-common in a good way. Would definitely stay again if given the opportunity.

What is nice about many of the Ritz Carlton properties is how consistent they are - room layout tends to be the same, jogging maps, towels and apples are waiting for you at your morning run and the staff is courteous and helpful. The Boston version of RC lives up to expectations in every way with clean, well sized rooms, a great location, courteous staff, excellent breakfast, great T access and a very nice bar.

Room Tip: For Amex Platinum and above members, the card-based amenities at this hotel are excellent.

I would definitely stay here again!! I came to town on an "alone" vacation. Gabe (concierge) set up a car to pick me up at the airport ...my driver was very sweet. I was upgraded to a huge room which was fantastic once the city was placed on lockdown. Sterling Jackson the bartendress is fantastic and lovely to talk to ...the service from everyone in the hotel was impeccable.
Thank you to everyone ...it was a wonderful stay ...even with the crazy events of the weekend.

Spent two nights at the Ritz during the terrorist lock down. Accomodations were classic Ritz. Foodservice excellent. Maybe the best room service food ever (NE Clam Chowder, Lobster Roll, great ice tea). Staff very nice and accomodating. We used the meeting rooms and ballroom on the second floor. Nice size, some with natural light. When the bar is set high, you expect the best from the RC, and they delivered on this trip.

Room Tip: All rooms are on floors 9-12. I was on the street side on 11. No issue with noise, with a peek view...

The room, lobby, and bar area are extremely nice as is the physical property. The general service and attitude of the employees I dealt with was unpleasant. The concierge was perhaps the worst I have ever dealt with. It was like dealing with a super pushy sales person who is trying to sell you an extended warranty. He didn't consider what we were asking for. Instead he tried to funnel us to is chosen restaurants where reservations were needed. I got the feeling that there he had side deals that were not necessarily in our best interests. I know to tip a good concierge. In this case all I wanted to do was get away from the guy.

I have noticed an attitude at many Ritz Carlton Hotels. The staff acts as though the name automatically confers a level of service and sophistication. Chicago is like that. Boston is the worst. On the other hand New York is terrific. The Ritz is Berlin might be my favorite hotel in Germany. In Boston the employees act as though they are doing you a favor when they speak to you. I had to ask where to check in even though the woman we checked in with watched with an aloof disdain as we dragged our bags into the lobby. It wasn't a huge deal. It was more of an indicator variable.

The exercise facility is a huge public gym. The problem for me is that it only opens at 5:30 on weekdays and at 7:00 on the weekends. It is impossible for me to get a good workout in starting at 5:30 if I have an 8:00am meeting or pick up.

I've stayed at the Four Seasons in Boston. That was a much better experience.
