Description: Itadaki is a Japanese Izakaya (the Japanese version of a Gastropub) located on Boston's famous Newbury Street. We specialize in Izakaya-style small plates for sharing (similar to Tapas) and we also have popular Japanese items such as Ramen and Sushi. In our beautiful full bar, along with an extensive drink list, we have a unique selection of Japanese Beers and Whiskeys, a large Sake list as well as New England's largest Shochu selection. For weekend afternoons, American-style brunch items, such as Omelets and French Toast are served, along with Lattes and Mimosas.

“Pretty bad meal”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2012

My wife and I were walking around Newbury St. and decided to stop at Itadaki. We ordered two sushi rolls, which ended up taking about a half hour to make. The server apologised after about twenty minutes and said the kitchen was backed up. Looking around, there were only five tables seated in the restaurant. Meanwhile, every other restaurant in the area was busy. I can see why it was so quiet now.

“Worst meal in recent memory”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2012 via mobile

The server was nice, but uninformed. We asked for recommendations and she said she's never tried any of the food. The food was pricey, poorly executed and bland. We had the clam chowder, yamakake, ocha-zuke, uni croquettes, and beef tornado wrap. The beef was over-cooked, the Japanese yams were mealy, and the croquettes were luke warm. I'm never going back.

“Let Down”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2011

We were really excited to have my birthday dinner here and we were surprisingly let down. First, we are the only ones in the restaurant at 7:45pm Friday and we get sat at a corner table begin ordering champagne and they sit a family with two small childen next to us. The entire restaurant was empty and they were put next to us. The kids were so loud we asked to be moved which they had no problem doing. Next, we ask the server what she recommends and she said I love the eggplant Tapas but we are out of it tonight.. The menu was not impressive at all. We did have a 2 rolls which were very good however we endup leaving b/c it just wasnt lively enough and the menu didnt wow us.

Hopefully after a moths of being open things will get better and their menu will change.

“Go anywhere else.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2011

We were seated outside on the patio, which had about twice as many tables squeezed in as it should have. Other guests had to get up and adjust their chairs so we could squeeze in, and then unless I leaned forward in my chair, I was touching backs with the guy behind me. Things only got worse from there. We waited about 20 minutes for our waitress to come by and bring us water. After finally ordering food we waited over an hour for it to come because they ran out of rice (what!?!?!?) the food was ok, but pretty small portions for the price. The waitress forgot nearly half our order as well, so that was more waiting. We each sat with empty glasses for about 45 minutes before we were able to flag someone down for a refill. All said and done, it took over 3 hours for 4 people to have some sushi on a Wednesday evening. With all the good restaurants on Newbury, I don't see how a place with such terrible service and mediocre food could stay in business.
