The food here is on par with gourmet dumpling but it is way less busy.

The service is pretty good, cost is high vs other spots in Chinatown.

Really good dumplings and hot soup on a cold day. Lots of Chinese-speaking families eating there, I'm guessing because it's good and reasonably priced!

We got in just in the nick of time for lunch as this place was soon packed. Very good service, excellent menu choices, unbelievably cheap prices considering the food was awesome. A man behiund me kept going, "Oh my god, this is awesome". I asked him what it was, they were steamed mini juicy buns with Prok served with white soy sauce with strips of ginger in the sauce. He was right. These are unbelievable. $6 for 6. and worth it. It being a cold day, we went with D12, Taiwan style Chicken Leg Noodle Soup and D3 Noodle Soup with Pork and Veg. The broth was fabulous and the pork was not the usual dried out variety but juicy tender. Excellent food, and we got out there happy, full, and for less than $20. How can you go wrong?

I am snobby about my Chinese, Shanghai Joes at 9 Pell in NYC is the best in the USA. However, since I am in Boston, I searched for years to find the Dumpling Cafe and it is awesome! The decor is drab and the atmosphere is a bit noisy and close, the service is adequate and friendly enough but this place is about fresh, tasty, wonderful, authentic food at excellent prices. I first stopped in about 6 months ago and have been back almost weekly. So here is the deal: What the world calls pot stickers or steamed wontons, they call dumplings, but what NY calls dumplings, they call Steamed buns. You must have the Pork Steamed Buns! They are traditional soup dumplings full of pork flavored soup! Don't put it all in your mouth with one bite or you will burn yourself. Drain a little onto your spoon and slurp until it cools, then fill your mouth with the dumpling and smile!!
The beef with streanbean is outstanding. the sauces are all first rate. Even the fried dishes, like sesame chicken are made with fresh, juicy chicken you can actually taste throught the sauce. If you don't know what to order, look around at what your neighbors are eating and just go for it. You will discover Taiwanese and Chinese favorites you might not know existed. Dinner for two is usually under $30 including two orders of the steemed buns. I took my family of 4 there for less than $50 and we were stuffed.
