I stay here a lot. We skate next store at the Boston Skating Rink so it's very convenient. I've never found it to be disgusting but it needs a major overhaul, especially when the rates resemble other much better hotels in and around Boston. So what's good: free parking, the restaurant is both top drawer, and a top draw for Chinese food lovers, Asian and non. It's the second reason I like being there. The staff is acceptable to good. It's easy to get to Cambridge, could even walk over the Harvard Bridge and you're at Harvard Square. What's bad: the rooms are tired, old, and things don't always work. Occasionally, there's no manager or engineer around to voice a complaint to or help with an issue. The desk people double as fix-it people. The workout room works, but is decrepit. I've had a flood happen and a faulty shower experience in the last two times I've been there, so things do happen. Getting to downtown Boston by public transportation is doable - only via bus, no nearby T stop - but very cumbersome. I would rate it 2.5 overall, for sometimes it's a 3, and sometimes it's a 2. If the price were more reasonable - and it will be as winter sets in - I would rate it a 3. But at $150-$200+, it's way too much. I'd say renovate and charge that, but somehow they get away it. But winter's coming.
