I just "discovered" that my river cruise to Paris, France, ending in Nice, was "cancelled". GC never contacted me to let me know--i just discovered it when checking my "Planner". Also then discovered that my air tickets were gone as well! It took me 3 calls and 2-1/2 hrs on the phone yesterday to try to find out what happened(still not really sure!). The person I talked to was very unsure of his information like he was really new. He finally agreed to "cancelling" my trips (I did not wish to re-book) and assured me that I would receive a "refund" of my $6400! It would be credited to my credit card within about 30 days. He did tell me to follow-up, which was worrisome. It still shows as a "Credit Voucher" on My Planner, so I am dubious as to wether I will ever see my money again. I am very upset and sad all at the same time. I was so looking forward to this trip to France, and as a repeat customer, felt confident it would be an exceptional trip. My last trip in 2010 was wonderful and without incident in either booking or travel. But NOT THIS TIME--how disappointing. I cannot get the customer service dept. to acknowledge my emails requesting information or feedback. I've also made phone calls to the VP with no response. Terrible situation. I feel that I will NEVER see my money again. How agonizing! It was "GIFT" from husband, so GC has betrayed him as well. How sad! I never actually traveled even though you asked me for a date!

A group of 6 of us are scheduled for Iceland and Greenland 2022. The Greenland portion was cancelled after everyone paid in full. The terms and condition state: If Operator cancels any optional extension which you have purchased, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid for the extension. This portion was several thousand of dollars. I have asked for a refund of this portion. Letter to Harriett Lewis never received a response. The supervisor Sarah Moffitt indicated I would get a refund. That was 6 weeks ago. My statement now shows a future credit. OATS used to be a premier company. There is no response to letters, emails, and phone system is just wait time. I still want my refund. There is too much risk in a company that appears to be failing. Buyer beware.

I am having similar trouble as others describe. They cancelled my trip yesterday due to low registrations (only a couple weeks after I just spent a good hour or two trying to get my flights sorted out) and I wasted more hours today sitting on hold and trying various ways to get them to call me, via email, facebook and twitter. This trip has been booked for well over a year, after a previous trip was cancelled due to covid. Based on research online, it looks like they are now cancelling multiple trips for "low" sign ups, and they have a convoluted description of what I should do. Here is the only response I got today, via email:

"Thank you for contacting Overseas Adventure Travel and Grand Circle Travel. Please note we are receiving a high # of emails. We prioritize emails in the order they are received, based on your departure date.
However, sending duplicate emails will prevent a timely response. We expect to respond within 15 business day."

Not very reassuring. Their hold times have always been awful. I have booked three trips with them now and all three have been cancelled. Each time is a nightmarish process of trying to get some customer support to sort out the mess. They keep saying they will hire some customer support people, but they don't.

I booked a trip over a year ago to leave in 3 months. The day after the payments were due they cancelled the trip stating they didn't have enough people to run the trip. Would have been nice to know that there might be an issue before they took my money. I called to rebook and they didn't even know that on their website there was the same trip leaving 3 days later. They rebooked the trip but I couldn't get the same accommodation on the ship that I had with the original ship. I could deal with that but then came the airfare debacle. I spent over 1 1/2 hours on the phone trying to change the air. They wanted to book me on Copa Air (who the heck is Copa Air) and said I would have to pay if I wanted an aisle seat. I wanted the same United flight they booked me on for my original trip and was told it would be $600 more. They finally put me on the flight but then said it may change (not sure what that means). They offered nothing more than a sorry. Was looking forward to my dream trip but now it's become a nightmare. I am cancelling the two trips I had booked with them for next year.

Working with this company has been a nightmare. I have a group of 16 people traveling to Italy in September. I have gone through 3 different group representatives that NEVER followed through with the trip planning. I have contacted the flight department numerous times, given them all the pertinent information and they do not get back to me. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Wait times on hold can last two hours. BEWARE!!!!

We can't apologize enough for your difficulty in getting through. The majority of calls are related to numerous last-minute changes and cancellations by the airlines.
