Extremely comfortable room, fabulous shower and the best location. Walked to North End as well as Back Bay. Looking forward to returning. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts around the corner. Service was friendly and efficient. The view from our room couldn't be beat.

A very classy hotel, with great rooms and nice beds. Wifi is free. Our room had curtained glass wall of the shower shared to the bedroom, which was a little awkward given that we're friends rather than a couple. The location is good, being right next to the State House, although this does mean you might have to walk a few blocks to find places to eat.

Great hotel perfectly situated in the city center of Boston. I already tested the Langham and the Nine zero hotels too but this one is definitely my favorite one.
Very beautiful building outside and inside. Inside is very modern and cosy, my room was just amazing:
- great view on the city
- king size bed very comfortable
- very modern bathroom with view on the room (but you can draw the curtain to get more intimicacy from the bedroom part)
Great staff, very helpful, they took the time to help me with my demands.

One comment however, I would have loved coffee/tea machines in the room. Also offering a complementary bottle of water would be appreciated.

Minimalist hotel in central zone of Boston. Everything minimal, monosyllabic service, loud music in lobby cuts need for communication. Bed comfortable, room designed to look good rather than function.

Sometimes, problems are an opportunity for people to excel, and that's been the case on this stay. Our booking through an airline hadn't made it into the systems of the Ames hotel. However, the guys at reception handled it gracefully and were keen for us to settle in before dealing with the matter at hand. Nice touch.
Also, the restaurant and bar are undergoing refurbishment until the end of the year, but the staff are doing a great job of making recommendations locally.

As above. However being a bit picky over details,they should have told us sometime in the three months between booking with a breakfast included, that they no longer did breakfasts. When queried on arrival were told we would get a $20 discount off our bill for each day of our stay.
This they did and recommended an ace diner, Archies in Pi Alley,about 100 yds away. The low prices actually showed us a small profit.
Had a spacious room with a huge bed (almost two kings) and a great view to the harbour and airport on 14th floor (1401) .
The hotel is easy to spot in daylight but not so if arriving in the dark, as it has no easily visible signage or lit up foyer,. This is in itself has a strange difficult set of doors and the chairs inside obstruct the route to the lifts. The door staff could use some hotel livery but don't and therefore aren't easy to spot.
Overall though, minor niggles aside,I would recommend as a great base to explore Boston.

Room Tip: 14th floor market/airport side.

Let me say at the outset that I would absolutely stay at this hotel again.

The staff was so helpful, warm, and friendly. I love modern sleek hotels (of which this is one) and my boyfriend who prefers the more traditional kind liked the room as well. Both the shower and towel warmer were deemed "civilized" (and they were!), the bed was so comfortable, and the throw blanket deemed the most wonderful we'd ever had the pleasure to wrap ourselves in. Plenty of room in the bathroom, but like most modern joints, the room is not huge - although this one was very well designed so didn't feel oppressively small. (We were in room 1109, a corner room - deluxe superior.) I didn't have an issue with street noise, but then again I'm from NYC so it takes a lot for that to make an impression - perhaps our room was high enough up it wouldn't come through.

Here's the slight chink in the armor: we were out for a day of touring Boston, and when we came back at 4:30 pm our room hadn't been serviced. Housekeeping, oddly enough, showed up just as we came in. We had to turn her away as there was no way we could leave the room again - we were exhausted. The front desk was notified and made arrangements (after some backing and forthing) for a housekeeper to stay after 6:30 (their usual closing time) in order to freshen the room when we went out to dinner. I never did find out why or how this happened - if it was possibly a scheduling mishap - but the staff was johnny-on-the-spot and took care of it. I took notice of this accommodation and this minor blip would not in any way detract from a future stay.

Did I mention that the location is ideal? It is. Right across from the Old State House, next to three T lines, up the block from Faneuil Hall, down the street from the Old Parker House and the original Bostom Cream Pie - it's perfect.

The building is unassuming because it is an historical landmark and cannot be significantly changed in any way. I like the simplicity of it.

As for the restaurant being closed, well, yes. It is. It would be incredibly helpful to have a bar in the lobby in order to enjoy a little something after a day out or when you come back from dinner, but it really is only a matter of convenience. (There are plenty of bars in Boston - we never wanted for a tall cold one.) As for coffee in the morning, there is a Dunkin' Donuts 324 feet away, and in fact on virtually every corner of the city. I never use in-room coffee makers (it's always dreadful) and my fella is more than willing to throw on a pair of pants and get us the java we so need when we wake up. (That said, if there were a restaurant/bar in the lobby, the issue would be taken care of - I trust management is well aware of this.) As for the cost of the mini-bar - I'm not sure why folks are surprised by this. Of course it's expensive! On only the very rare occassion do I indulge and then it's with open arms...and wallet.

This is a new management team and I get the very real sense that they know what it takes to have a stellar establishment. I look forward to staying here again to see what moves they've made. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
