Neighborhood: Beacon Hill
Description: Villa México Café had its origins in Woburn, Mass. Julie King, owner, manager, cook, cleaner and everything else, began the business with one purpose only: bring authentic Mexican food to the people of New England. Fast forward to 2006 with two businesses under the belt, an array of experiences, and stories to last a lifetime, the latest Villa México Café opened in Boston. Serving authentic Mexican dishes like burritos, quesadillas, tacos, tostadas, fresh fruit waters and more, the business was inside the gas station store right in front of MGH. It's quirky location and energetic staff made it a special staple of the Beacon Hill neighborhood. In January 2013 the brick-and-mortar location was closed due to a building demolishing and rebuilding plan, but Villa México Café continued its catering and salsa sales. The new storefront reopened at 121 Water St., Boston on January 2016. As Momma King says, "Hi my friends! Welcome to our "changarro!"

The most important thing about a restaurant is the food and Villa Mexico's food is worth seeking out, both for quality and value. Beyond the food, the people there are friendly, accommodating, and helpful. We got caught in a "comedy of errors" involving an order recently and they could not have better about getting everything straightened out. They definitely put the customer first.
The place is take-out only. They do have a couple of seats but it is located in a gas station and not the greatest atmosphere. Don't let that deter you. It's worth visiting. (They may be moving across Cambridge St. in the near future.)

I am a big fan of Mexican food and had been looking for a great Mexican restaurant in Boston. After living here for 10 years I was starting to loose hope- then I found the best FOOD - it's not from your typical restaurant (Villa Mexico is a convenience store/ fomer gas station) still -the burritos/tacos from here are delicious! I wish I had tried it sooner. Service is quick and friendly. Prices are totally reasonable. Did I mention the food is great? It's delicious!

Ok...despite its location (in a gas station), the food here is awesome. Tacos, burritos and nachos with killer homemade salsa. This place is no joke.
