“What A pleasant Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2009

I lived in Massachusetts for 20 years, so when my husband decided HE had found a place for us to stay for our 7 day trip in Boston I was a little hesitant.
But was absolutely, delighted once we arrived.
It's difficult to do it justice in a review,so you just have to trust the reviews and try it yourself. Aside from a little glitch in getting there from the airport, which should only be a few minutes,( if you stop and ask for directions) from the moment we arrived and were greeted by the "Inn keeper" we knew it was going to be a great stay. The location itself is worth the money. If you are into history, staying at the Old Navy Yard ,there is so much to see and do within walking distance. Then if you want to go to downtown Boston you are a ten minute walk to the pier and a couple dollars ferry ride that takes 10 min.-and VOILA you are right Quincy Market/Legal Seafood? The Aquarium and lots of shops and whatever else.
Just sitting outside your room and watching the sunset or sunrise is breathtaking. You see the Boston skyline...you can fish-which my husband did. The breakfast is great. And most importantly the owners are extreemly pleasant but non-intrusive. We wished we had booked the entire 7 night there but thoroughly enjoyed our five nite stay; and will definitely be back..sooner than later, I hope!

What a stroke of luck to stumble upon the Green Turtle when searching the internet for a place to stay in Boston. The sightseeing we did during our 5 nights in Boston was all very nice (Navy Yard, downtown, Freedom Trail, whale watch, renting a car to drive up to Maine), but the really special part of our trip was the Green Turtle experience. Within hours of being greeted by owners Karen and Jon at the dock, we felt like we had been friends for years. They were there to meet our every want and need, yet were careful to give us our privacy. The Green Turtle is everything all the other reviews talked about...comfortable, beautiful, impeccably clean, and unique. But what I will always remember about the Green Turtle is the people behind the place. Karen and Jon devote their heart and soul to providing their guests an "ultimate experience".

Staying at the Green Turtle was one of the best choices we made on our trip to the East Coast in early October. The room and houseboat was immaculate, and the little extras we found upon our arrival made the stay even more perfect - snacks, soda, juice, water, milk and yogurt among other things were stocked in the kitchenette and fridge.

We really enjoyed the chairs out on the dock--especially when we returned home after a night on the town. The view from right outside your room at night is absolutely breathtaking.

The only downside is that the Green Turtle is located in Shipyard Quarters in Charlestown, and it is a bit of a hike to downtown Boston if you walk. We ended up walking to downtown and then back at the end of the night, but if you're not wanting too much exercise, you should definitely take the ferry to Long Wharf and then take a cab back (if it's past the time that the Ferry runs). If you don't mind the hike (I think it's between 1.5 miles and 2 miles if you walk to Faneuil Hall from the GT), it's nice to be able to walk and really take in the City/views. The USS Constitution is on the way, so definitely stop there for some sightseeing as you walk.

I would recommend the Green Turtle to anyone traveling to Boston, as it is roughly the same price as most if not all hotels, and is a much better experience than your typical hotel. You'll get waaaay more bang for your buck at the Green Turtle.

A little bit of heaven in Charlestown, MA!! I first found out about the Green Turtle Bed & Breakfast from a local television station that was doing a show on Charlestown. One of the places highlighted was the Green Turtle. I thought the idea of a floating B & B was quite unique and thought it would a fun to stay there and surprise my husband for his recent retirement.

Karen, one of the “crew”, greeted us at the marina and walked us down to the Green Turtle – we were blown away by what an awesome place it was!! Two inviting deck chairs and table are available to each unit. The dock was decorated with beautiful flowers, as were the window boxes. Our suite was beautifully decorated in greens and brown with a nautical touch. Everything looked brand new - so clean and sparkling.

We enjoyed sitting on the dock so much that we never followed through with my plans to tour Charlestown or Boston during the day. The only time we left was to walk to dinner at one of several nearby restaurants.

What’s great about the location is that you are a five-minute walk from the ferry that travels back and forth to Long Wharf about every 30 minutes. Long Wharf is located a block or two away from Fanueil Hall and the Government Center – plenty of places to eat and toast your great fortune of staying at the Green Turtle – which we did the next day!! There is also a water taxi that will pick you up at Green Turtle’s front door and drop you off at your ocean front destination.

Everyone was so friendly – two of our hosts, Karen and Mary were so nice and helpful, answering all our questions. We also had great fun waving to the passing boats (and dancing along with the nightly party boat as it passed, under a moon lit sky!!). We also enjoyed chatting with the other couple sharing the Green Turtle – Marsha and Ed from Alabama.

The next morning we enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast that was delivered to our door – breakfast croissants, muffins, and fresh fruit. Our suite was well stocked with snacks, yogurt, granola, cereal, juices, milks, water etc.

We hated to leave, but assured our “crew” that we would be back!!! There’s nothing like being lulled to sleep by the ocean currents!!

The Green Turtle B&B is everything as advertised and so much more. The location is perfect with an outstanding view of the Boston harbor and easy access to the sights and sounds of Boston proper. The room was clean and comfortable and the morning fresh baked bread and fruit was incredible. We spent most of our time sitting in the deck chairs watching the sunset, the morning sunrise and the many activities going on in the water. However, even more impressive was the chance to get to know the inkeepers (Karen, Jon, Artie and Mary) and spend time chatting with them. They truly made us feel like part of the family and gave us a lot of great information on the things to see and do while in the area. The only negative was that we were only able to spend one night there. We could have stayed several more and not get tired of this unique experience. I have already referred a business friend and he has booked his plans to stay here. This is a stop that you have to make when traveling anywhere close to the Boston area.

We had a nice time at the Green Turtle. Our stay was great. The room was elegant and spotless clean. The bed was very comfortable. The view of the Boston skyline is right there while you look out the window or sit and relax on the dock. A short walk brought us next to the USS Constitution and we took the "T" water ferry right over to the Aquarium and spent time at Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market shopping and sight seeing. But the best time was relaxing at the Green Turtle. Our innkeepers were very gracious and all our needs were taken care of. Boston is a city full of history and interesting sights which we have visited many times but we have never experienced from this unique marina setting.

What an exciting & different place for a "getaway". So many things to do---tour Boston or charter a boat to go deep sea fishing. Or just relax on the pier as we did. The room was elegant and comfortable. The Innkeepers were very friendly and made you feel right at home. I would definitely go back again. By the way, if need be, there is a water taxi from Logan Airport.
