Owner description: Please come and visit the brewery! Rich and Dan started Harpoon to make great beer and welcome beer lovers. That founding spirit lives on every day as we pour pints in the Beer Hall, take visitors on brewery tours, and share our passion for beer with fellow beer lovers.

So, let me give you a piece of important advice - DO NOT DRIVE. Take the train/bus, cab or whatever... because whenever you leave here you will not be fit to drive!
We went for their daily tasting (weekdays at 4pm). To sum it up, they open up the taps and the beers are free flowing for about an hour and a half. Every 20 minutes or so, they tell you about the history of Harpoon, the types of beer you're tasting, etc. But they keep your tasting glass full as long as you want. They had (approx) 12 beers on tap when we were there, and had the opportunity to try them all (and VERY hefty samples - approx 5-6oz of each). The samples are UNLIMITED as long as the taps are flowing.
Best of all, it was all FREE. Seriously, you can't beat that! It was definitely a good thing that my husband and I took public transportation to the brewery, because we would not have been safe to drive. But, it was fabulous. All of the beers were VERY VERY good, the staff were great, and the samples... unlimited and free ;) What more could a beer lover want?
Go, Drink, & Enjoy!!

I would like to say the tour was great like the previous comments, but cannot. We drove 6 hours to get to Boston. Took 3 subway trains and a cab to make it by 4:30 and were turned away. Make sure you get there early because they only take 25 people on the tour. We were looking to purchase growlers, glasses, and six packs, but were not even allowed in. The Sam Adams tour was great. No restrictions on number of people. Got to tase the malt, barley & hops. Sampled three beers by pitchers and were taken to a great bar (Doyles) by party trolley. There we got the new Sam Adams glass for free by purcaaing a beer. So Sam Adams = 2 free glasses, great tour, and plenty of samples. Harpoon = nothing. Way to treat your customers.

Lots of beer variety to sample, a fun and interesting tour, and a great location make this an excellent way to spend an hour in Boston!

Took a tour of Harpoon's Brewery and must confess a more impressive tour than Sam Adams. First of all, they make an incredible amount of there own beer at this location. Even allowed to test an unflitered beer before the last few stages. The tour is an hour and broken up into the tour itself and tasting. They provide tasting of all the beers and they do have an impressive collection. Great time had by all and at a very resonable price.

I was not a beer snob until I took the Harpoon Tour. After the Sam Adams tour I felt jipped because it is not a real brewery but a test bed. It is all for show at the Sam Adams tour. Whereas at the Harpoon tour they are an actual Brewery. The beer you get there is the freshest around. For a small fee of $5 the tour lasts 1 hour and has a real "friendly" feel about it. It has limited people on the tour as well, I believe 20 per each group. The first 25-30 minutes is spent touring the workings of the plant from step one to the bottling. For the remainder of the tour you get practically unlimited samplings of 9 or 10 of their flavors. Now all I purchase is Harpoon.
