This is a tricky spot to visit. No parking and it is off the beaten path for tourists. You have to cross Storrow Drive using one of 3 walkways. There is the Esplanade which is a quick view. A statue of Arthur Fiedler. A little park. If you walk along the water (to get to the basin) the views are really cool. There is a bike path/jogging path. The views of MIT, the Charles River and Longfellow Bridge are pretty cool. There are benches along the way to sit and rest. There is a place to rent a sailboat.
A nice break from the histoery of downtown.

I used to go walking or rollerblading down the Charles from BU to the Science museum. It was a great way to end my week. More recently we went to see the dragon boat races.

From the Liberty Hotel we walked to the Charles River Eplanade. The walk was a little more convoluted than normal because there is some sort of construction going on; maybe a new pedestrian bridge was being made. The Longfellow Bridge also appeared to have something going on and one of the spans underneath it was closed.

Once on the ground, we could not get close to the water as the Sailing Club had quite a bit of the waterside fenced off. If we kept walking we could have gotten next to the water but it was a hot day and we had just wanted a short walk.

We hire bikes at Urbanadventours on Atlantic Avenue and cycled alongside the Charles River and crossed the John F Kennedy Bridge into Harvard Square. It is a stunning area and then you can cycle back along the river front through the Cambridge area with great views back to the Boston skyline!!
