“Great views”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Enjoyed looking around the museum across the road before climbing the 294 stairs to the top. Finding my pace was a bit slow for the kids. A good workout rewarded with stunning views across Boston. Only disappointment was that the perspex glass in the small windows at the top was very scratched and therefore photos can become very grainy. But it was free....and that is very good!

“Climbing the monument”
Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

We were here on Bunker Hill Day and we enjoyed climbing the monument and seeing the parade encircling the hill from the windows at the top. Because of the parade, they stopped requiring tickets to climb, which made it kind of busy at the top and not as pleasant as it would have been otherwise. This monument requires that you get tickets to climb from the museum across the street. The tickets and museum are free, you just need to know to get the climbing tickets first. There are 294 stairs so I wouldn't suggest it unless you are in good physical condition. Also take water! Great views!

“It's really on Breed's Hill”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

North end of the Freedom Trail. The trail is all about walking and this part lives up to the theme. Closest train stop is Bunker Hill Community College and then a long walk. It is through a picturesque section of the city. The actual battle took place on Breed's Hill which is where the Bunker Hill monument stands. You can walk to the top (yay more walking). It's narrow and a very tight space. The park around it is very nice and a pleasant place to rest after a long day walking.

“Only go if you are doing a tour of the area”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

Long walk to get there, best way is via one of the sightseeing tours. Otherwise it's a 1+ mile walk from the water taxi at Charleston Navy Yard going up hill. Fortunately the way is marked and avoids traffic. You can't see anything from the ground level of the memorial itself because of development. The central tower of the monument is a miniature Washington Monument. Also because of development the memorial park itself is very small.

Having toured several Civil War monuments this one did not measure up to the standard set by those but perhaps it shouldn't and I am not being fair.

Went back as a adult and the history is wonderful, but I forgot how many stairs their were. Great views and a great workout.
