I booked the hotel before knowing about trip advisor. The hotel seems to have a very good marketing person who made the website give the impression it was more than it was. If you go expecting an average place for a little too much money, that's what you'll get.

We had several challenges including that it's hard to find with little signage out front, the parking garage they said was next door on the phone ended up a couple blocks away, the family pool is far from it (a four lane, YMCA workout pool), the AC in the first room didn't work and they moved us to a new room, the bathroom in the new room was always hot (we never turned that one in), and the internet was in and out (supposedly they have some new equipment coming).

That said, once we got used to the bumps, the neighborhood was quite quant and a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city. The docks were nice to walk, the neighborhood store was great, and a real crozy feel to roaming the streets.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at The Constitution Inn. We would like to apologize for the air conditioning not working properly in your first room and do hope your second arrangements were more comfortable. We are happy to provide an afforadable option for travelers in Boston as typical summer rates are high in the city. The Navy Yard is a historic part of our city and walking the docks and taking in the views of the skyline is a great way to capture Boston.

We do hope you consider The Constitution Inn for your future travel plans.

Best wishes,

The Constitution Inn

Great location in the Charlestown Navy yard and within walking distance of a convenient ferry that goes back and forth to Long Wharf (city centre). However the hotel itself is overpriced and of poor quality. When we got there they had no record of our booking (which came through the Travelrepublic website (Hotelbeds dealt with the US side) all I can say is thank god I'd printed off the booking confirmation and brought it with me. They made a few phone calls & Hotel beds told them they definitely had sent the reservation across so it was unclear what had happened. Luckily another guest hadn't shown up so even though they initially thought they were full, they had a room free for us.
I'd describe the bedroom as tattered. We paid 136 euro ($177) for one room for one night. In Ireland where I'm from, for that price you'd get a decent hotel room with breakfast. This hotel room was in serious need of refurbishment. However if you're looking for self-catering then it was a weird combo of a hotel room and an apartment i.e. it was a hotel room with a fridge, sink and cooker (!). Overall I would say - if you're stuck it's fine but if you have other choices I wouldn't stay there again.

We ended up staying here for a very last minute trip into Boston for a Stanley Cup game. The arrangements were made for us, so we went where we were told! This hotel was fine. I would have given it 2.5 stars if I could - it is not poor, but it is not quite average.

It is certainly nothing fancy or special. Honestly, the rooms reminded us of our old college dorm rooms. The bathroom was TINY, with no counter space. It was very difficult to get ready in. The shower needed some serious TLC - the shower head was hanging off the wall. The room was clean and fine for one night. There is a Shuttle to the TD Garden/North Station just a block away - very handy.

Cab drivers never seem to know where this place is, so make sure you can get them in the general area!. Also, don't have the front desk call a cab to the airport for you! A beat up Ford pulled up to take us. No meter in the car. It was part of a service called "UBER". They charge a flat rate - $40!!! That was about $15 more than the cab from the airport! Felt like we were being conned on the way out the door. Husband told the driver we would give him $25 or we would get out and get a different car. He took the $25, but I still wish we had gotten out of the car.

If your time in the room is minimal or you are there for a short stay/special event, this place will be fine. I most likely will not return, and I would not stay here as a family.

Room Tip: Get a high floor as far away from the attached YMCA as possible.

Dear Guest,

Congratulations on your Stanley Cup win in Chicago! We do hope you enjoyed the close proximity and shuttle service to North Station. We have looked into the issues your experienced with the taxi service and we do not use Uber as a car service for guests. Perhaps another guest called to use this Company? We will be receiving a room renovation in the near and would be honored if you would give us a second chance in you come to Boston again. Thank you for taking time to review the Constitution Inn.

We chose this hotel primarily because of its location but also because we got a good rate and as anywhere else close to the centre of Boston is double the cost it was a good deal. The nice lady at the front desk when we arrived was very helpful and friendly and was more than willing to answer all of our questions about the area as this was our first visit. The location at the end of the freedom trail (USS Constitution) is great. The rooms however are needing a bit of tlc, while clean, we had 3 lamps but only one worked making the room dark. The kitchen would normally have been a useful addition if we were staying for longer however I'm not sure I would have used it as it didn't look particularly nice. We had two rooms and my parents in the other room said that they did not have any hot water on either the evening of our arrival or on the morning of the following day, we didn't have the same issue in our room. There is no onsite parking but they do endorse your ticket from the garage two blocks away which is attached to the hospital. But it was not very clear as to how many times they would do this if you wanted to take your car out more than once, So it could get expensive at the full cost of $20/24hours. There was a little bakery a block away which did delicious if expensive breakfast sandwiches. We would stay here again because the positives out weighed the negatives in the beautiful city of Boston.

First off, we had a substantial military discount which is why we chose to stay here. The place is absolutely fine, the service is great, the rooms are large and clean with A/C. It was also nice to have a kitchenette with full fridge to keep your drinks cold and maybe re-heat some leftovers - but it's not something i'd pay extra for at another hotel. With a city Link Pass, you can take either subway or ferry boat into town and it's very close and easy. Not a lot of restaurants or shopping nearby but the whole area seems clean and not too crowded or noisy. It sucks that there's no adjoining parking lot (and it seems most Boston Hotels don't) but there is a covered parking garage nearby that gets locked at night. In all, I may stay there again but if money was not an issue, I'd rather stay downtown next time.

If you follow my reviews, you know I am a fair reviewer where five stars is truly exceptional. So I rated this two stars for good reasons. Here are the pluses and minuses:

Pluses:

1. Good location to MGH Hopsital and Institute
2. Cheap
3. Decent size room for an economy hotel
4. kitchenette (if that's important)
5. Cheap can ride over local bridge to North End ($8)

Minuses

1. Not anywhere near luxury
2. After ten minutes, still no hot water in shower on a Saturday at 530am where there should be no competition from the water heater (that's worth one star knock down there)
3. Odd, sterile location. Not much in this area.

Room Tip: Face south away from highway

We stayed at the Constitution Inn at the Charlestown Navy Yard. The hotel was plain and simple. As all the reviews point out, it is not a luxury hotel. We stayed for two days and it was adequate for our stay. We used the water taxi nearby to get back and forth to Boston Harbor by the aquarium. The rooms were comfortable, but very plain. Our room had a fridge, microwave, stove, and a coffee pot. We did not have a need for them. We did get a military discount and it was certainly a bargain during graduation time in Boston. There are a few little places to eat in the area. We did eat breakfast at the nearby hospital and it was okay, and we ate dinner at the bistro at the end of the street and the food was good. One of the best things about the inn would be their workers. They were very kind and helpful during our stay. This hotel has the feel of a family owned establishment, not a chain hotel.
