“Boutique quaintness with full charm and amenities...”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

This Memorial four day weekend stay in Boston was our second time at the Battery Wharf property. Perhaps I don't remember the special qualities of this property because of so much other travel, but this was an opportunity to refresh ourselves on the unusual, pleasant and unique qualities that are a rare experience and special treat. The Battery Wharf is a historical site from the Revolutionary era today overlooking the Coast Guard station and Boston Bay, sail boats headed to the Charles and overlooking the Bunker Monument from our room with the water rippling just below our windows. (It's recommended to reserve a room overlooking the Coast Guard station to optimize the special experience of the property.) The hotel is literally built on a pier that extends out into Boston Bay so you're not just on the waterfront, but extended out into it. From Logan airport, you can opt to take a free shuttle bus #66 that will take you to the water taxi. The water taxi are small boats that shuttle people from the airport to the Seaport, Rowe's Wharf, and literally to a stop that's steps away from the Fairmont Battery Wharf hotel for $10 per person or $17 round trip. The water taxi run except during bad weather.

The hotel services were advanced. We received an email the morning of our trip asking what time we expected to arrive at the hotel, how we planned on arriving, what the hotel could do to assist. Check-in and out was all done easily online. I asked if early check-in might be possible, and upon touch down at Logan airport received an email from the hotel notifying us that our room was ready for early check-in at noon. While I understand the hotel cannot accommodate such requests for everyone, it was the level of courtesy and care to providing complete service that was notable, and, from my expense, exceptional. We had our breakfast en chambre the trolly wheeled in and served on time with every request met. We ate offsite in the North End so we cannot give advice about the restaurant's food. However, there's a great band on Fridays & Saturdays and it's hopping!

What we found refreshing was the quiet ambience of the hotel on the waterfront. I encourage going for the extra price for a King room overlooking the bay or the Bunker Hill monument. The hotel has a convenience car, BMW 7-series to shuttle guests around the neighborhood and this came in handy particularly on the rainy day. The North End is right there, Old North Church, Freedom Trail, Itlain North End restaurants (Mike's Bakery), Quincy Market.

In summary, the take away is that the experience was total service, relaxed, and unparalleled upon request. We liked not being oppressed by effusive staff, but treated like adults that could come and go as we pleased knowing that whatever we desired was efficiently delivered, professional at very turn.

We're happy to recommend this property if you're not the overly needy type looking for glitz and glamour, but a great historical location that's private, convenient and very, pleasant indeed. We'll definitely go back again next time in Boston.

Room Tip: Reserve a room overlooking the Harbor or Coast Guard station. Yes; they're more expensive, but s...

Thank you for choosing to stay with us over Memorial Day Weekend and for taking the time to post such a thorough review. I am so pleased to hear that this visit was able to exceed your expectations and left a lasting impression on you. Our staff works very hard to make guests feel welcome and at home and it is great to hear that you noticed and appreciated their efforts. Thank you also for mentioning our live jazz on Friday and Saturday nights. It is one of the features of our hotels that we believe sets us apart and it is always great to hear good reviews!

Thanks again for your wonderful recommendation! We hope to see you back at Battery Wharf again soon!

Warm Regards,
Indu Brar

Stayed here and loved it! Walk to the North End, the beautiful Harbor Walk is right there Greenway nearby.
Very quiet area, secluded feeling. Peaceful views of the Harbor - we had a view of the Constitution and Bunker Hill Monument. You really feel like you can stretch out giant screened windows that open all the way very refreshing. Everything new and clean and they are one of the most modern hotels I have seen in Boston as far as in room technology. They had multiple inputs on the television and the cables for it. They also had built in speakers in the bathroom ceiling with volume control on the wall - great for listening to the news while showering! We had a great stay and can't wait to go back!

it is one of the best and most luxurious hotels that i have ever stayed, but it was really expensive for my financial limits. it costed more than 300$ per night. apart from that i have nothing negative to mention apart from the fact that you have to pay extra for internet access.

Spent two single nights at this hotel this May. Chosen as there is a water taxi station at the wharf which connects to Logan airport. There is a short walk to the Hotel entrance. The hotel is on two floors only with apartments above and has two wings, one is across the entrance street.
Room very comfortable but be aware, the shower system is complicated defeated us (two heads and we never did get to use/work out the rainwater top shower). Not the kind of thing to ring and ask for help with when naked and wrestling with unclear and new handles etc. We had already had to ask how to use the Nespresso machine - incidentally this is free of charge . Not all of us own one!Access to the TV system is very complicated and defeated us. The hotel appears to know about this and the apartments also have the same system, but who knows when something will be done?
Nice that the windows open and so one can sleep with the air-con off if you want to - be aware that the pathway outside along the dockside is used by joggers (not a problem) and also smokers, so if the windows are open the pong can drift in.
Breakfast extra and watch for the service and extra charges on room service breakfast. Good breakfast downstairs.

Room Tip: Make sure that you have a room with view to the harbour - great place to watch the boats and ask if...

7 minute water taxi ride from Logan, beautiful property, excellent service, highly recommend the Gold experience. Have nothing but praise for the staff and Gold amenities (separate bldg., wonderful breakfast, appetizers and desserts). Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Two blocks from Hanover St/North End. Only downside may be distance from a T station but it is easily walkable - and a fun walk as station is at the other end of Hanover. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.

Room Tip: Gold Rooms are worth the price differential.

Overall I agree with the "good" reviews of this hotel here on TA. Having spend 4 consecutive nights at the Fairmont Battery Wharf I would rate it as a 4.5 star hotel. Keep in mind that this is not the Mandarin or the Four Seasons but it is a decent, well kept and well-managed hotel with many amenities of the above top-end hotels but a fairly lower costs.

Here like to summarize my subjective pros and the cons of this hotel:

Positive:
- Fair rates, usually 100 US $ below rates of comparable 4* Back-Bay hotels. Sometimes nice specials with resort-credit and breakfast.
- Extraordinary friendly and welcoming staff at the front desk and all over the hotel.
- Extremely clean property.
- Large, very well kept and extremely clean rooms with plenty of storage room. No smell.
- Comfortable beds.
- All rooms have windows that open and let in fresh air.
- Upscale furniture and interior decoration.
- Very quiet.
- Stable WIFI. Free of charge if you join Fairmont President's Club.
- Nice bathroom with walk-in rain-shower.
- Free drinking water and welcome present.
- Nightly turn-down-service.
- Bathrobe and slippers.
- Free rollaway bed for children.
- Nice views of Boston Harbor from some rooms.
- Nice hotel restaurant for breakfast and bar for sundowner with courteous staff.

Negative:
- Far out from Back-Bay but very close to North-End and the Financial District (so not really a negative point during good weather).
- Annoying noise from slamming guest-room doors.
- Temperature in the hallways, public spaces and even the restaurant sometimes at freezing level.
- No real concierge service.
- Sometimes difficult to catch a taxi.
- Annoying noise from the kitchen vent in the restaurant.

Overall the positive points clearly outweigh the negatives. The hotel is suitable for either business or leisure travel. Will return.

Amazing hotel! Nice rooms and COMFY bed!
Could use some free wifi though....
It also took 20 mins to get hot water for the shower (I'd still stay here again).
**if you are coming from the Logan International Airport ask how to take the water taxi to this hotel. We took a free shuttle from the airport to the water taxi pick up spot. Much better than sitting in traffic :) it is $10/person for the ride.
