I had the fortune to try out this exclusive bar this past Saturday. Tucked in the lower floor of a building not far from the World Trade Center, Drink combines an elegant simplicity with expertly chosen small details (such as small glasses of water and appropriate music volume) to make the atmosphere conducive to relaxation and conversation. This is helped by the fact that the bar seems to operate under maximum capacity. I believe the only reason I was able to get in quickly to this popular establishment was that one of my friends knew someone having a private gathering in one end of the bar; the line to get in was longer when I looked later and I fear I will have trouble getting in so quickly in the future.
However, the wait would be worthwhile. I ordered two drinks, a Caipirinha and a Dark & Stormy, from our incredibly knowledgeable and friendly bartender, Cali. Her deliciously mixed Dark & Stormy has probably ruined my ability to order the drink elsewhere. She made a flaming whiskey drink for a friend of mine that involved the pouring of the burning liquid back and forth between pitchers in a captivating display.
Other touches were similarly noticeable. One of my friends ordered a cheese plate and an order of fries, both of which were quite tasty. When others in the larger party we joined in that corner hijacked the order of fries before my friend got to them, the staff insisted on bringing him a new order. Beyond this, the bar staff seemed to be enjoying their work, with smiles and good humor all around, despite the number of patrons they were serving. Even with how busy they were, they were quite attentive.
This place is somewhat pricey, although not extraordinarily so and if you base your expectations on prices and drinks elsewhere, your value greatly exceeds the cost here.
I look forward to returning to Drink for special occasions in the future.
