“Great location, noisy rooms”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

We stayed here on points for 2 nights - i had requested a quiet room, and we were given a room on the side street (which i assumed was away from the noisy main road opposite the TD Garden). The room was incredibly noisy unfortunately and it was not a good night's sleep. We asked to be moved (as did others the next morning, so I think it might be a common problem) and later that day were put in a room on the 5th floor facing out the back of the hotel (over an alleyway so no view) - this was much quieter and the 2nd night we were able to sleep, but it is a shame that we weren't given this at the beginning. Most of the lights in the 2nd room did not work. The staff were very helpful, although they seemed to be kept very busy with phone calls and residents. The breakfast was the typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast and was good quality - the cinnamon rolls were very nice, the bananas were just ripe and the new pancake machine was a delight.
All in all, an average stay due to the terrible night's sleep the first night - if we had been given the same quieter room for 2 nights then probably 4 stars due to staff friendliness, good location (for the North End and the Italian district of restaurants) and the breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing internal courtyard or the back alley, away from the front road and the side stre...

We stayed at this HIE this past weekend when in town for my son's Boston University graduation. We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable, the location was ideal, but the highlight of the stay was the staff. From check in to check out they were friendly, accommodating and professional. We had a small request regarding our room temperature that was handled swiftly and happily. After visiting with family in the lobby, we left a bag on the table where we had been sitting. We called the hotel when we realized it, and the staff had already placed the bag in our room!!! We would look forward to staying at this hotel again in the future.

Room Tip: Fifth floor room- no street noise.

I arrived late from a delayed flight. The from desk employee , African American, was very nice. I was suprised that the valet attendant was also, there. When I arrived at my room, the light switch did not work. There is mold in he bathroom on fan surround, shower area and shower curtain. Poor lighting, lights did not match shower seems real small . The window shade could not be closed. Broken.
Tv is very small and has issues showing the picture and poor sound. This could be from the provider and out of the hotels hands.
There is a lot of street noise, then again I'm on the second floor.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor, book in advance. Valet is only 4$ more than parking yourself.

Hello and thank you for your comments. I am glad to hear that you received a warm welcome and that the guest service person and valet attendant were present to greet you. However, I am disappointed to hear that the room was not up to standards. I have my chief engineer looking into this now and if he and his team find anything, I can assure you it will be taken care of immediately. I wish I had a chance to speak with you before you departed. If your travels find you in the Boston area please contact me. Thank you again for your review and for bringing this to my attention.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Boston Garden HIE and we picked it primarily for its location as the nearby subway station makes it easy for us to visit many of Boston's attractions.

The hotel room itself was nothing to shout about but it was clean and comfortable. I must say that the rest of the hotel itself seems a bit worn down and in need of little bit of maintenance. However as tourists, only the room mattered to us. Fortunately there weren't any events at the Garden during our stay so we did not encounter any street noise at night although our room was on the second floor and we had blissful and restful sleep on all nights.

Being located 2 stops from Faneuil Hall was a big plus for us as we always made a stop there for dinner before heading back to the hotel in the evening.

Thank you for your feedback. We too feel that our location is perfect, whether you're traveling for business, government, leisure or especially sporting events and concerts! Also with North Station across the street and the Green line for the "T" around the corner, it makes travel easy to come in and out of the city as well as get around while visiting.
I apologize you thought the hotel needed updating, but the exciting news is projects are being done as we speak and updates are scheduled for the entire year! Please come back and see us soon! Thank you again for choosing to be our guest.

This hotel is a nicely refurbished older place, and felt more like a boutique hotel. The best thing was it's convenient location to the Boston Garden, which made for a mellow concert experience. Last time I was in Boston I got hung up in heavy traffic on my way to a show, so even though this hotel was more expensive than what I usually pay, I thought it was worth it. One small complaint, though, and that's that the only ice machine is in the basement, and it takes two elevators to get there - no biggie as long as you're not in a hurry.

We appreciate your comments and feedback, thank you. Also we are glad you enjoyed the concert. Being directly across from the Garden, it makes it very convenient for our guests to attend concerts, shows and sporting events. Regarding the ice machine and the two elevators.....We are installing a new elevator that will be accessible to ALL floors in one trip as well as a second ice machine. Hopefully these things will be completed by your next stay.
Thank you again and look forward to seeing you soon!

We stayed here the weekend of the boston marathon. We have stayed in many HIE hotels and this one does not nearly compare. The breakfast wasn't up to par. No fruit, yogurt, or cinnamon rolls any of the three days we were there. There were no refrigerators in the rooms which I thought they did. It wasn't the cleanest hotel and the elevators were quite jerky (and past inspection)! The walls were very thin and the bar noise woke us up - we stayed on the Friend Street side.
The best quality was the location. Very close to the Garden and the subway. Definitely not worth the money we paid. We won't be staying here again.

Right across the street from TD Garden and many restaurants and bars nearby. A little pricey due to prime location. Valet parking is 40$ but is an absolute must - you won't find any parking nearby... We had to wait 20min the next morning at check-out for our car (gives you an idea how far away it must be parked!!). Clean modern room. No fridge in room as promised, but Good service nonetheless.
