“Great rooms, service comes up just a little short”
Reviewed October 26, 2010

Great rooms, great location. No follow through with service. They say they will do something, then it never happens.
Returned to room 9:30pm no turn down service when I called they seemed surprised I wanted it.t

Nice hotel just keep your expectations low in the service department.

I used to go to the Four Seasons in Boston that actually I believe still has the best location. I don't know why now when I go to a town I always check first if there is a Mandarin and only then if there is a FS. There is nothing wrong with the FS , actually the service is outstanding . The difference perhaps is that the Mandarin's are more detail oriented and more "european", somehow more modern . I like to have a separate shower and not have to use the bathtub to take a shower . I like that the hotels rooms look all so different. When I go in a FS the rooms in the one of Mexico City are similar to the one in Austin and even in Boston. Perhaps two outstanding FS are the one in Milan and New York ..
Anyway I can only recommend this Mandarin.

The Location is amazing-best place in Boston

Great Restaurants within the Hotel--all have excellent food!!

The Spa is amazing--a must!!!

Rooms are very nice--comfortable--well appointed. Rain shower are fantastic but read below.

However, there were several service issues that you would not expect at a Mandarin Oriental. When we checked in the front desk person asked us if we would like to have a welcome drink sent to our room as is done at MO hotels. They forgot to send it. When I told the staff that we are going out and that they had forgotten to send the drinks he apologized and promised to send it in the evening. They forgot again. That evening when I took a shower I noticed the shower pressure was very weak. I asked if someone could take a look at the shower. Engineering came up right away. They recommended that we change our room since it will take a while to fix. We stopped by the front desk to check about moving our room and they wanted to put us in a smaller room on a lower floor. So we decided to stay in our original room since engineering made a temporary fix. Two days later the handle to our shower fell off in the shower while housekeeping was cleaning the room. Instead of having it fixed they simply left the handle on the bathroom counter. We had also gone out and purchased sparking water bottles for each of our bedsides. Housekeeping would take both bottles and put them up on the bar each day rather than leaving them on each side of the bed. So we would not know which bottle was who's.

This is a great hotel and we would definitely go back. Hopefully the service hiccups will be fixed next time.

Just wanted to write a few lines here after staying at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston during labor day weekend. I drove down to Boston from Montreal with a few friends to see a Red Sox ball game. We only stayed for one night, but I wish we had stayed longer. This hotel is totally awesome. Granted, it was built just 2 years ago I'm told, so it's still very new and modern looking, nothing is out of place, no scratches, paint chips, marks on the carpet, etc. But regardless, they know how to take care of their guests. From the time you pull up in front with your car, the doormen & bellhops are super friendly & polite. Same for the staff at reception. The room was truly perfect. From a huge, super luxurious bathroom, to a very big and spacious room, to ultra comfortable beds, and of course tons of TV channels (so we could see all the game highlights when we can back from the game!), this hotel has it all. Oh and the turn-down service at night was pretty classy too. The bar downstairs is modern and was pretty happening, even on a Sunday night. I've been to Boston several times in the past few years, and this was the best hotel stay I've had. I'll certainly look to stay here again next time, and would recommend it to anyone, without a doubt.

we checked in pretty late and were given a handicap room and didn't receive the amex upgrade (neither of which are complaints) but other than that the staff was very attentive and service-oriented. our room was pretty large and unlike other handicap-accessible rooms i've seen, it didn't seem like things were positioned lower and there weren't support bars on walls. there was a small foyer with the mini-bar that could be closed off with double doors and i love the bath/shower wet-room often seen in asian hotels. my main complaint with the rooms is we first had foam pillows which were squeaky, so we requested down. they were extremely firm. i asked for softer down pillows. i'm not sure if they were switched out because the pillows were still pretty firm.

the fitness room has basic cardio machines, dumb-bells and some strength machines. it has a nice yoga studio room too. the spa has a great wet room with jacuzzi, steam, that mist shower thing. the spa menu is quite pricey. i enjoyed my facial but if i lived in boston, this wouldn't be my regular spot cuz of the prices ($195 for a facial).

breakfast at asana was pleasant. they had birchermuesli on the menu which is my top vacation bfast food. and they make it well here. good service, food isn't amazing but it's very good and pretty presentation. definitely seemed like lots of business meetings conducted at the hotel restaurant.

big plus is the location. above prudential mall, close to newbury, easy to get to the green T stops and red line areas are easy to reach via the Mass Ave bus just a few block walk away. (i can get my flour bakery sticky buns in just 10 min via the #1 bus to MIT!) overnight parking is $45 but on the central parking website (which is underneath the hotel), there is a printable coupon for $25 overnight. MO is a nice addition to downtown hotels since a lot of the hotels around are old and dusty. OH, and i do find it bothersome that many high-end hotels continue to charge for wi-fi.

The Mandarin Oriental is a wonderful and luxurious hotel and couldn't be in a better part of town. Rooms are great, bathroom very spacious with good amenities. Staff is very well trained, friendly and attentive. All the extras in the hotel are very pricy and WiFi is an extra USD 15 per day. But the Apple Store is on the other side of the street. Hotel is next to Prudential Center (go up there at night to the bar for a drink with a view) and very close to shops and restaurants on Newbury Street. Overall: worth the money.
