I was in town for a conference at the Hynes Convention Center and wanted to be within an easy commute but away from the chaos of the conference. John Jeffries House was the answer. The 'T' stops across the street, a 10 minute ride to the Hynes. Morning coffee, delicious scones, muffins, yogurt and fruit are plentiful; serve yourself in the comfortable parlor and read the day's newspaper which will be waiting. All is included in the rate. My room was on the ground floor, facing rear, so no view to speak of but it was quiet and included a kitchenette. If you seek peaceful respite within steps of the heart of the city, this is the place.

We just stayed at the John Jeffries House last week for 2 nights, while my husband was having surgery at Mass Eye and Ear. The location was perfect for us with just a 5 minute walk across to the hospital, or a $5.50 cab ride back! From the time we booked our stay until we checked out, the staff was very professional, kind and accomodating. We chose a room with 1 single standard size bed, which suited our stay, which was very small, but came with a microwave, 4 burner stovetop and refrigerator. The room was immaculate and our housekeeper really knew how to make up a bed properly. We found the continental breakfast which consisted of muffins, croissnats, danish, juice, fresh fruit, coffee and tea, to be quite tastey! The only suggestion - add a toaster and bread for those that might be there for surgery. Both my husband and I have worked and managed several 4 and 3 diamond hotels/ bed and small Inns and would reccomend the John Jeffries house to those folks who are looking for a nice stay in Boston on a budget. It is such a convenient location to the hospitla and there are so many shops, restaurants and antique shops well with in walking distance to enjoy! Warm and comforting atmosphere in the city!

Room Tip: Spend a little more if you can and get one of the larger rooms/suites. Don't miss the either th...

i stayed with my family in John Jeffries House (JJH) for 5 days during my visit to Boston. JJH is really an excellent hotel to stay. breakfast was great and attracted to my kid too. People sitting in front desk are helping us whenever their help required. It is located very near to MGH train station and it is connected almost all the places in Boston. As a conclusion, we enjoyed the trip by staying in JJH. we will visit again during our next trip to Harvard University/MIT

Very friendly and helpful Staff; beautiful and comfortable open room on the first level. This hotel really does have a cozy atmosphere (as well as a very interesting history). Try for one of the suites if they are available; they are very reasonably priced and, especially if you will be staying more than one evening, the additional room will be very appreciated. One note about location: even though the Hotel is on a non-through street, it is located very close to a major roadway and Mass General Hospital, so if traffic noise (or the occasional ambulance siren) is likely to keep you awake, this may be a bit to "urban" for your tastes. On the other hand, if you are looking for truly excellent Thai food, the restaurant around the corner on Charles Street is a must, and Boston Commons is a very short walk (we saw it in the recent snowstorm -- beautiful). Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for the double-bed suite.

Excellent location when you come to visit Boston and surroundings: close to a major subway stop (Charles) and at the corner of the lovely Beacon Hill quarter. Do not expect a tremendous breakfast but you will have enough to start walking straight on Charles street, and wander along the "freedom trail" downtown historical Boston up to USS Constitution or bunker Hill monument. Only one stop from MIT and three stops from Harvard you may spend a whole day there spoilt of choice of museums. Back at John Jeffries House in the evening you will hesitate between the numerous restaurants of the neighborhood. Knowing that local prices are those of a wealthy town, you might also decide to rest and make your own romantic diner in your room.

Room Tip: Our room was on the lower floor (underground) with a kitchen but nearly no daylight. Not a problem i...

Clean rooms, good location, free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fruit all day. Basic breakfast. A little noisy with traffic and sirens during the night. Sofa bed tiny - more like a single than double.

Not luxurious and staff not particularly warming but good for a base and reflected in price.

For the price, this hotel is a gem and the location's wonderful. We stayed one night in August on the bottom floor. It was a bit dark, however, a retreat from the hot, muggy weather. We walked around so much, we basically came home and fell sound asleep on the bed. The breakfast is limited especially for being GF as there weren't many options. However, coffee was good and for the price, we were happy to find the place. Only gave three stars.
