“Boston Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2012

My wife and I stayed here for five nights. Service was excellent. They held packages for me which I picked up on arrival. Breakfast was pastries fruit coffee tea etc. It was sufficient to start the day and there were plenty eating places around the corner in Charles street.
The John Jeffries is within walking distance of many tourist attractions and shopping. For those a bit further afield there is a Red Line station across the road giving access to the MBTA.

The place has a charm lacking in most upmarket establishments, it is well run and we will return here on our next visit to Boston.

Love this place. When i'm in Boston - this the place to stay with continental breakfast too. Rooms a clean and service always friendly 24/7. Room rates reasonable to all. Half the price area hotels. And other pluses, on Charles, across from a CVS, near hospitals, across the street from the Red Line, UPS store half a block, Post Office just a block, stationary stores, places to eat like Figs, a few blocks to the park and easy walking or running distance to Cheers (learned that yesterday) and also learned there are a ton of ppl running/jogging all over at all times in all weather - reminds me of a Michellin tire.. oh, if u book a suite for a week - sometimes they have discounts and the price of a suite is almost the price of the studio.. not to mention their smallest room is cool w a mini kitchen and a full bath. A splendid stay... Will of course be back...

We live in the Boston suburbs but had to be out of our house for three nights for construction. The JJH seems relatively little known even in Boston and I had read some mixed reviews, but the location and price were right (off-season deal). On the up side: Location (can't beat Charles Street for charm!). It seemed that a lot of renovation has been done throughout the inn: Our suite was newly and tastefully painted and had new kitchen and bath appliances. Breakfast is a variety of sweet rolls, but the LR is charming and large, and if you are lucky enough to be around during the day, you can probably have it to yourself, with complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and newspapers. Down sides: Our "suite" was about the size of a regular hotel room, divided into two small and awkwardly shaped rooms, with barely room for only a double bed. Lighting, although new, is too dim for reading. We had trouble with the TV and wireless (but hey, it existed). Still, as I said, most things were in top shape and we were very pleasantly surprised. We would definitely stay here again; much more charming and affordable than other downtown hotels.

Room Tip: I saw a basement room, just renovated, which was large and nicely appointed and probably quiet, but...

The John Jeffries is located right near the Charles T Stop on Beacon Hill and close to everything. We walked to the Boston Garden/Commons, Newbury Street, North End and Faneuil Hall. The room we stayed in was a Junior Suite, which was clean and included a kitchenette and separate living area. Some of the guests were there for medical procedures, so be prepared for bandages and splints. The breakfast offerings are meager and you're better off getting something to eat down the street at Panificio.

great location, but sleeping can be hard because of the noise, it is located close to the road, BUT great value for money if you are watching your budget and we would go again.

After extensive research in hotels in Boston, this place was such a great find at a very good price. Beacon Hill is a notoriously expensive area but this hotel, situated across from the hospital, seems to cater to a different audience, e.g. outpatients, etc.
The rooms were a little musty and poorly lit, and the whole place had a slight hospital smell to it, but on the whole we found it clean and presentable. The free continental breakfast was a nice touch. The convenient location of this hotel is the main reason we so thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Boston.

I booked here through email, as I am not from the US. This was an easy process and very quick. I wasn't sure how it would be staying there, as there wasn't a lot of reviews for it when i booked months in advance.
I needn't have worried! I had a wonderful time at this place and as i am returning to Boston in sept for a few nights, i will be staying here again. It is SO central to everything!!! The train is across the road so Harvard and Cambridge were a few stops away which was handy. I also walked from the hotel to Boston Common and it literally was a less then 10 min walk. Lovely street to walk along too.
There were a lot of restaurants in the area, but since i had a kitchenette I stopped at whole foods and cvs and cooked which was nice for a change. Having the kitchen really made it easy and allowed me to relax after long days of sightseeing!
I booked a room for 1 person which was big enough for me to move around comfortably. It was a standard room, i would call it quaint. It was a comfortable sleep and traffic noise was not too loud in the early morning which was good.
The breakfast needs some work, even cereal and toast would be better than just muffins and the like. I ended up getting cereal from the cvs across the road and had a yummy breakfast myself each day so regardless I was really happy staying here. It had a nice vibe about it.
Can't wait to return next year, because it is the most central place you can stay for a good rate! I was nearly going to stay near Harvard as it was about $525 inc tax which was the cheapest in Boston at the time for 3 nights. Looked at JJH website and after inquiring, found my 1 person room, with bathroom and kitchen for 3 nights for $440 inc tax!!! Much better location here too!! Can't believe my luck in where I was, it made getting around the city so much easier!!!
