We stayed here in September 2009 as part of a New England holiday booked through Virgin Holidays. We upgraded to a "deluxe room" and were given a very comfortable, spacious, elegantly furnished room with two double beds. All staff we encountered in the reception area were friendly and helpful and we were greated on arrival by Caty Copley the resident black labrador, who even has a book written about her. We were slightly disappointed by the ensuite bathroon, which was very small and in need of an update. The shower in particular was not what we expected from this standard of hotel and room choice - very low water pressure. We did not eat in the hotel because the prices even for breakfast were way overpriced compared to the very many nearby hotels and restaurants, and the staff seemed rather aloof when we asked to see a menu to check prices which unsurprisingly are not availabel on line! For breakfast I would recommend the excellent buffet at the nearby (max 5 mins walk) Marriott hotel at the Prudential centre - great value, good service and friendly staff. I also agree with a previous reviwer concerning the ridiculously high charge for bottled water provided in our room - $7 plus service and "restocking" charge whatever that is supposed to be! I can't believe anyone would pay that! All in all it was a pleasant experience to stay in this very well located and historic hotel in Boston which is a great city, but next time we will probably stay somewhere else.

I stayed at this hotel with 2 friends for an all Girls Weekend. We were able to get a really good deal at $130 a night through a promotion from work (plus valet @ $42/night). For that price I wouldn’t think twice about staying here again, however there were a few issues we had.

There were 3 of us staying in a room with a king size bed and at check in they offered to bring up a cot with no extra charge. We checked in around 6PM, by 10PM we had to call the front desk and ask if they were bringing it up because it still wasn’t there. I also called a few days before to request a mini fridge, when we arrived it wasn’t there. On the second day they didn’t really clean our room, they gave us fresh glasses and soap but they didn’t make the beds, change our towels, etc. Again, we had to call the front desk to ask them to come back.

To be honest, all these things didn’t really bother us, we were there to have fun and it wasn’t a big deal, but I can see how paying $230 a night and getting service like this would be a little annoying.

On a positive note tho, the staff was incredibly friendly, the hotel was beautiful inside and out and most importantly, the location was perfect. We were able to do a great walking tour of downtown Boston, starting at the Trinity Church, which was right across the street, through the Boston Common, up Beacon Hill, through Quincy Market and eventually making our way to the North End for some great Italian food & pastries.

Overall, I was quite pleased, and as mentioned, I would stay here again but I’m not sure if I would pay more than I did.

It seems as though there is a continuing theme of this property. It is very good overall with the majority of the staff achieving expectations.

And then you have the Oak Bar...poor, poor service. The waitstaff seemed as though they really didn't want to be there and they were just going through the motions!

If I were the general manager of this property, I would really look into this continuing theme of poor service in this one area of my property. It is great in every other aspect and it's too bad the one part can ruin it for the rest of the great employees.

We stayed three nights at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. With the exception of a check in person who was quite snooty (perhaps she was having a bad day?) and misinformed about our reservation (she insisted we had been upgraded which was news to us since we had purchased a Deluxe room) the staff were wonderful. The black lab "living" in the lobby is an interesting touch.
As mentioned, we had a "Deluxe" room which was large, and elegantly appointed. Although the room was on the 2nd floor and right off the elevators (I think the nasty girl at the check in counter purposely put us as close to the street and the elevators as possible) there was virtually no noise coming in the room. Concierge and doormen were great, but service at the Oak Room bar in the hotel (which was close to empty at the time we were there) was very slow.
The Back Bay neighbourhood is great - but so were all of the Boston neighbourhoods we visited during our four day stay. What a great city!
We were a short walk from one of the remaining Filene's Basement stores but I was very disappointed. Instead of the amazing one of a kind bargains I expect from there, it has turned into a duplicate of Marshalls.
And Salem? Oh my. Reminded us of that awful Clifton Hill street at Niagara Falls. Bunch of tourist garbage, but without anything spectacular like the Falls to make the trip worthwhile. Ferry ride over to Salem and back was nice though.
Food in Boston is OK - great Italian restaurants in the North end - but mostly seems to be restaurant chains or places catering to the student crowd.

Stayed for five nights over my wife's birthday. Having travelled to Boston before, was really looking forward to staying in one of the city's flagship hotels. Check in was efficient, although a mix up over the number of nights we were staying which led to us being locked out of our room later in our stay. However that aside, the room was adequate. The door did not fit properly as you would expect in an old building, but the bathroom door which was two inches short at te bottom could have done with some attention. These are standards that you would expect in a less quality hotel. Concierge was excellent and I would like to thank Joe for his advice with regard to car rental and where would be good to go - this led to a great day out shopping and visiting Newport RI.

Overall good quality hotel. Would recommend on service, but not on room quality.

We had a wonderful stay with the Fairmont Copley Plaza. We checked in quick and easy, and had a fabulously large room (609). It accommodated our family of 4 very comfortably. We had a tray of cookies and strawberries left on the desk, but it was not for us. I assume it was for the previous guest from the day before, but they immediately came up, removed it and replaced it with our own snack and water. The children got to walk the hotel dog (Catie Copley), which was one of the highlights of the trip.
The hotel was in a wonderful location (back bay) off of the windy water, but among great restaurants, a park and great shopping. We learned to use the T the first day, and the T stop was right by the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel and location for visitors to Boston. It's just so easy to get around the city wherever you are staying, but the Fairmont Copley Plaza adds a high class element to the trip!
