Newbury Guest House

This guest house is ideally located in the Back Bay area, on a street full of boutique shops and restaurants. Despite the nightlife, it's not rowdy, and you're well placed to walk or get the T to all of Boston and Cambridge's main attractions. (Talking of the T, if you're arriving at Logan Airport then get the free courtesy bus to the Airport T and get a Charlie Ticket - the journey in to Copley or Hynes is only $2. Bargain.)

Our room faced Newbury St but wasn't particularly noisy. Aircon was handy as it was a warm spell. Room reasonably sized, firm but very good bed (we slept soundly), and good shower in the small-but-adequate bathroom.

Breakfasts are in the adjoining Creperie (via an internal door) - good but repetitive, with cereal, muffins, bacon & egg, coffee and fruit juice every day (plus assorted condiments). If I'm being hyper-critical, maybe something different on the weekends would have been ideal. Anyway, you won't starve.

There's also a French restaurant, La Voile, in the basement so you don't have to travel far for good food at dinner time either - but there are so many options only a short walk away.

Staff were helpful and booked restaurants and called a cab for us when we asked.

Free wifi throughout (as it should be), newspapers and coffee available all day in the reception lounge.

Highly recommended - good price, great location.

Room Tip: We had a second-floor room (i.e. 1 up) facing Newbury and it was surprisingly quiet. You'll not...

This was a lovely small guest house that came personally recommended by a local. The service was friendly and the beds were big and comfy (although we found this at most places in Boston!) The location was excellent- Newbury street is the best in Boston and there are lots of eateries nearby. There was also wifi access. I'd recommend.

This hotel was exactly what we were looking for in Boston: quiet, convenient, nicely appointed, great complimentary breakfast, free wifi, and a great price considering you're in Boston! The staff was polite and courteous and we had a friendly conversations about the different colleges we were visiting while in Boston.

Our room, 309, was high above the street and quieter that you would imagine. However the jackhammering at 7:30am on the sidewalk was quite a wakeup call. Still can't figure out why it had to be done then, but that wasn't the fault of the hotel. The street is lined with trees laden with lights, so there is a lot of light coming into your room at night even with the blinds tightly shut.

Our room had a queen sized bed - I think they call it a "deluxe room" - a view of Newbury street. Down comforter, extra pillows in the closet, refrigerator and safe also in the closet, a fireplace (for looks only) and lovely mantle, flat screen TV, individual room temp controls. Only complaint was sitting near the windows was drafty. I would have gone down to get a blanket if we stayed another day; sitting next to the window and watching the action on newbury street was entertaining.

We ate the complimentary breakfast in the Creperie: eggs, bacon, toast, fruit juices, coffee, etc. Very tasty! The staff was on top of cleaning off tables quickly and making sure the eggs and bacon trays were filled. I never felt rushed to leave.

We ate there for dinner as well. Good wine selection, delicious savory and dessert crepes! I wanted to return, but felt obligated to check out one of the hundreds of other eating establishments along this stretch of town!

The location is sublime! So many interesting boutiques, eateries, people to watch. The Boston Commons park is a nice stroll away and so many colleges are within easy distance as well.

If my daughter goes to college in Boston, we will definitely stay here in the future!

Room Tip: Rooms on the Newbury Street side are great. Get one higher up for less street noise if thats a prob...

My partner and I stayed at the Newbury while on a spring break college tour with our 17-year old son. Of the three hotels we stayed in on our trip, the Newbury was the only one that disappointed us. While the location may be convenient for some and the tiny guest rooms have been beautifully renovated, the negative feelings generated by the outdated / messy / tacky lobby and hallways and by the apparently miserably unhappy and unbelievably unfriendly / unprofessional staff more than outweighed the positives of this strange little out-of-the-way hotel.

Room Tip: We had a beautifully renovated, but tiny, room in the back on the second floor. It was bright and qu...
