“Clean the pool, please”

This was our fourth visit. The hotel is good, the staff are great, breakfast is fine, swimming is fun, even if the pool could be scrubbed better. There's now a Dunkin across the river but nothing else in walking distance.

We arrived early on the 4th of July but were allowed to check in early because the room was available. This was the beginning of more good things to come. They delivered their famous warm chocolate chip cookies within a few minutes of checking in, and we were given a room overlooking the Charles which was where we ended up watching the fireworks since the weather became a challenge. The free shuttle was very convenient - stops at Harvard Square, Copley, Boston Common and Aquarium (where you can connect to water shuttle to Logan). Strongly recommend making shuttle reservations for the return trip, however, as it got crowded in the evening and cab fare would run about $20+. When another guest complained about missing the shuttle the front desk immediately offered to reimburse parking fees or cab fare, without hesitation. Did not use wifi or pool but both were available. The suite was clean and roomy - queen pullout sofa in living room, microwave and good size fridge, spacious bathroom, good shower, king master bedroom with great view. We did not eat at the hotel on this trip but have been to shows at Scullers and have dined in the past - has been excellent and is certainly convenient. On-site parking convenient and reasonable when they validated it for us, easy access to major highways. Concierge and front desk staff were always friendly and helpful, as was the reservationist when I booked a couple months prior.

This is a good hotel for Boston because it is one of the few reasonably hotels that are also very nice. It's close to Harvard Business School but not really close to Harvard University or the Train. However, they do have a shuttle to Harvard Square. The rooms are huge - you could easily have 4 people in this room (2 on the main bed and 2 on the sofa bed). You even get a small fridge. I stayed here twice, and the first time I couldn't find a quiet room because it is in the middle of major roads and highways - and many of the rooms were booked. I just used ear plugs...and the beds are *extremely* comfortable, so that helped anyway. The second time I stayed, they did find me a quiet room facing over the river more - in one of the corners. The health club is really nice & one bonus is that there is a private bathroom in there so if your flight gets in overnight (if you are on a long flight from out of the country, for example) you can use this while you wait. The shuttles are convenient to Harvard square, though they could use more frequent ones possibly. It's easy to get a cab anyway (though boston cabs are notoriously expensive). You can walk across the street to whole foods too...it's very close. There are not a ton of eating places over here - it's slightly a strange area because it has a lot of highways and businesses. It's not really the most ideal for a Boston tourist - but if you don't mind taking a shuttle and not being in the center of things - then it's worth it (and probably cheaper than most downtown hotels).

Room Tip: The view over the river is the nicest.

pros: excellent customer service
free wifi (join loyalty program)
small heated indoor pool and gym
family friendly (suites with pull-out sofa and free cookies on arrival)
clean rooms, attractive toiletries, comfy beds
kitchenette with fridge (empty! a plus for storing leftovers), microwave, and coffeemaker

cons: limited (free) shuttle service but taxis are readily available
some rooms have view of turnpike and railyards
bathtubs don't drain well

This hotel is a very good value.

We booked this hotel even though we live in the suburbs of Boston, so that we could watch the Independence Day fireworks and enjoy a night downtown. The price of the room seemed reasonable (for Boston). Front desk service was great; they gave me a discount when I mentioned I was a AAA member, without me having to ask for the discount. The room was as I'd requested: in a quiet area. Room was clean and having the living area separate from the bedroom was great. Wifi is now free. Location is not convenient, although they did offer shuttle service to several popular Cambridge and Boston areas. The negatives are that the shuttle stopped running at 8 pm, which is far too early to enjoy the nightlife and the self-parking fee of $35 is outrageous.

We had a weeklong conference at Harvard and I was initially disappointed because there was no availability at The Charles, which is right adjacent to campus; however, the Doubletree more than exceeded my expectations. The rooms are quite spacious and beds very comfortable; I had a wonderful view of downtown Boston, the Charles River, and even the lights of Fenway! A real bonus to the location is its proximity to Whole Foods, just a couple of blocks away; just another half block gets you to Alive 'n Kickin, the home of arguably the best lobster sandwich in town. The staff of hotel were all helpful and friendly, the shuttle service to Harvard Square was reliable and well-scheduled, and the food in the restaurant was a definite cut above standard hotel restaurant food. The walk to catch red line of the T at Central Square was quite manageable for going into downtown Boston, Fenway, museums, etc.

Located at the Harvard Bridge and walking distance to Harvard and MIT. A bit far to downtown Boston. Nice and clean hotel. Helpful staff, rooms are spacey. WIFI are about $ 15 per. 24 hours. Did not try breakfast. Parking garage which is veery useful. Conclusion - value for money, but a bit to far from downtown Boston. Good choice if you are visiting Harvard or. MIT.
