Good Airconditioning, great breakfast buffet (but is it really 20USD???)
big rooms (I did not need it)
wifi free if you join to HHoners
Good location to runaround charles river or to go Harvard Square
The shuttle service to downtown is great advantage

Very good location just few meters from Harvard Business School.

Close to Harvard Square with ample eating joints and other attractions. I stay for one night in Jan 2012 way to my HBS course.

Recommend to stay if you are visiting HBS

This hotel gets well-used, and it shows. Unless you look out a window, you could be in any well-used Doubletree anywhere. One upside is that rooms here actually have windows to the outdoors, which isn't always the case in other Doubletree hotels. The chocolate-chip cookie at check-in is so quaint - why do they still do that? The rooms are fully functional - ironing board, closet has room for a couple of suits and shirts, bathroom is adequate size and lighting, tv works. Furniture is slightly soiled and pretty worn. Beds are OK, and no bedbugs on this visit. Breakfast bar is way over-priced, and even the "fresh" food looks tired!

Room Tip: If you can persuade your travel planner not to book simply on price, spend a little more and stay in...

Doubletree Hotels knows their stuff. Clean, well-appointed rooms with free water, peanuts, popcorn, coffee, fridge, and WIFI access. Attached multi-level parking for $35. Conveniently located. Friendly front desk.

1. Location: Not great - unless you drive - as it is not near a subway station (20 mins' walk), Harvard Square (20 - 30 mins' walk), supermarket / convenience store (10 mins' walk). However, this place is nice as it is away from hustle and bustle. Also, being sited along the river means that it affords a gorgeous view. On the plus side, it is about 15 mins' away from airport.

2. Staff: Helpful, and generally, polite and welcoming.

3. Rooms: Good sized. Comfortable beds and rooms. 2 TVs: in living area and bedroom, with many cable channels. Aircon / heater available. Comfortable bathrooms.

4. Amenities: Good enough fitness room. Heated pool, although a bit small.

5. Other: Shuttle service, regular, and to 4 different parts of Boston downtown or Harvard Square. Great to overcome limitations of location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the river; affords a far more pleasant view.

The good thing about the Doubletree is that all the rooms are suites. You are paying a standard hotel room price (and much less than many downtown hotels) but getting 2 good sized rooms plus a kitchenette with microwave, fridge and coffee maker. We stayed for a week and found the room extremely comfortable. Ask for a room on the river side and on the upper floors to get a great view of the Charles, Cambridge and in the distance downtown Boston. Rooms on the other side overlook railway yards and the freeway. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful if we need anything.
The thing to be aware of before booking is the location. The hotel is on a sort of island surrounded by major roads and is not really walking distance to anything on the Boston side and only a few shops over the river on the Cambridge side. You really need a car! But here is the snag, you could end up paying $35 a day for car parking. The only place to park is the hotel car park, there is really nowhere else. We were not charged the parking fee, which would have been $245, because we were HiltonHonours members. It is definitely worth joining this program if you plan to stay here. We also got free wifi which is otherwise chargeable. And of course everyone gets as many free cookies as they want.
