“Very nice but beware of small rooms”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

In most ways this hotel was great. Wonderful location, great bar, very friendly & helpful staff, decent breakfast restaurant. But our sixth floor room was so tiny we had to take turns getting to the closet and the dresser / tv stand. There was only one night stand because there wasn't enough room. And the view from the one small window was basically of a concrete wall--one sliver of sky let us know whether it was dark or light. Be sure to ask about the size of the room when you book.

Room Tip: Ask about room size (and not to have room 601)!

The staff in this hotel were second to none, they were so polite, friendly and helpful. Every single person we came across was fabulous.
Location is great, we were able to walk to most of the typical sites.
We had a family suite which was perfect as I was traveling with my parents and my children. Plenty of space for all of us and the price was reasonable. The bathroom was small but not really a big deal and kind of the norm for city hotels.
I would absolutely stay here again on a return visit to Boston.

Location - 5/5: Although not in downtown Boston, we specifically booked this hotel for the copley square location. It was across the street from a super market, the malls and the green-line subway.

Service - 5/5: This hotel is very focused on service and all of the staff go above and beyond to make your stay great. In addition, the free coffee in the morning, free hot chocolate in the afternoon, and free wine in the evening were a great added bonus.

Rooms - 4/5: The hotel is a bit dated and is currently going through a renovation. I believe most of the renovation was already completed when we stayed here, but I am not 100% sure; The hotel floors still seemed a bit dated. The rooms themselves are clean and decorated with old-boston charm. Our only complaint was that the rooms were TINY. We had the "bigger" king-suite and it was still very small. The bathroom was also tiny, only usable by one person at a time.

Value - 4/5: We stayed here over NYE, so prices were a tad bit high everywhere. Still, this was probably one of the better value 4* hotels in the Boston-Area we were considering. The Westin across the street was about 30% more expensive.

Overall - 4/5: Overall this was a great hotel and the staff's focus on service definitely made it a lot more enjoyable.

Things to ask for: We asked for a mini-fridge and were provided one without a charge. We also were upgraded to the King suite upon request.

Things to consider: Parking is pricey - they charge $45/night for valet. The hotel doesn't have their own parking and the valet service seems to just park the cars at the garage across the street. You can park there yourself for less, but you won't get in-and-out privileges.

Room Tip: Ask if you can be upgraded to the king suite. While even the King rooms are small, the regular queen...

Thank you very much for your fair review of your experience and for ringing in the New Year with us! Our exterior facade restoration is complete, so the scaffolding and mesh protective covering are down only leaving a sidewalk bridge. We will begin a window replacement project the week of January 7, so the bridge will remain up until this phase of the project is done, which will take roughly two months.

As for parking, it is $43/day with in and out privileges. You are correct in stating if the convenience of valet parking is not important to you and you do not plan on using your vehicle, it does make more economical sense to park on your own as the lots across the street as one could save between $5 - $10 per night.

Thank you again for your review and your gracious comments about our staff. We will be sure to share with the rest of our team.

We stayed on 31st December 2012 and were really happy with this hotel. The location was great for all the First Night celebrations, although we were too tired to walk all the way back after the harbour fireworks. Still only took one minute to find a taxi back. The staff of the hotel were so welcoming, without being obsequious. The guys at the door are absolutely lovely and really helpful. Our room was on the seventh floor with a great view out over the streets, pretty large (bathroom was somewhat bijou), nicely decorated with a comfortable bed. It's nice to stay in a unique style hotel once in a while.

Room Tip: Can't speak for others, but our room on the 7th floor was large.

My wife and I stayed at the Copley Square Hotel. The location is fantastic. Unfortunately, our stay at the hotel was considerably less so. When I went to shower, I noticed that the drain was not working. By the end, I was standing in 2 inches of water with black sludge coming up. In the morning, my wife complained to the front desk. The woman apologized but also implied it was our fault for not informing them sooner so they could have done something to rectify the situation. But honestly at 10:30 PM, the last thing we would have wanted to do is wait for a maintenance person or switch rooms especially since we were only staying one night. When we returned to our room after breakfast and a walk (before checking out), the black sludge was still on the shower floor. We felt they could have at least sent someone up to clean it up. However, the most annoying thing was that upon checking out no further apologies were made. If the front desk lady had entered into the system that there was a problem with the room, shouldn't she have said something again? Our worry is that the drain won't be fixed and that the next guest will have the same problem.

I booked a last minute room via Hotwire and got a good price considering the location (I love staying in the Back Bay area.) However, even with the deal, I feel like it wasn't worth it. The room is tiny and overlooks the side of the street where there is some sort of nightclub. A fight broke out at 2AM whick kept us up. Also, we couldn't even shower because the drain was stopped up and bringing up all sorts of sulphur smelling sludge. I really hate drain issues because honestly, how can housekeeping clean the showers and not notice that there is something wrong with the drain?

On the plus side, the bed was comfy and there was complimentary wifi.

Please accept our most sincere apologies for the poor experience you had with us recently. It is never our intentions to have a guest depart disappointed but, given the circumstances, I certainly understand your frustration.

A more detailed response was posted to your husband's post (titled 'Front Desk Frustrations) but please understand we have shared your experience with our team on how to better handle these type of situations, as well as with our tenant as we continue to work with him and the night club. While what happens on the street is somewhat out of our control, there is no excuse for the issue with your shower. I have shared your comments with our Director of Housekeeping and he joins me in extending our apologies to you and your husband. We obviously failed in properly training our room attendants and will use your comments to reinforce the impact of their work.

Thank you.

The hotel has been newly renovated and everything in the room was stylish and clean. High end amenities in the bathroom were very nice too. The bathroom was very spacious but could have used a few more hooks or shelves for toiletries. Be sure to ask for a room with an outside view as opposed to the view we had overlooking an interior shaft. That was the only negative to an otherwise very spacious room with one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in!

Thank you very much for your review! While I may be a bit partial, I would agree on your comment about the beds! I do also agree with your comments on our bathrooms and we are evaluating ways of increasing shelf space for toiletries and such.

Thank you again for posting your review and rating us a '5'...we greatly appreciate it!
