“Great location and service”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

If you want to be near prime shopping, Newbury street, touristy sites and a short walk to the theater district, the Copley Marriott is it!

Check-in:
Was a fast, easy process.
Note: I can see though during busy times how they could be potentially overwhelmed, so if you see the crowd just head over to the right and check your luggage with the concierge and take a walk!

Room:
Didn't have to wait a while for the elevator, which is nice in a larger hotel. The room was very clean, on the smaller side, by typical for a Boston hotel. Very nice bed and pillows. Flat screen TV, everything you'd expected from a Marriott.

Fitness Room:
Very nice fitness area. Solid amount of treadmills, ellipticals and other machines. Small selection of dumbbells and a nautilus circuit. Big pool for laps, along with a hot tub.

Location:
A couple blocks from Newbury, a couple blocks from the church and library, a maybe 1 to 1.5 miles from Boston Common. Grocery store across the street and of course a fantastically high-end "mall" on the 2nd floor that spans over to the prudential building. The hotel sits between the Prudential building and the John Hancock building.

Price: Varies WILDLY. My corporate was fantastic, not a single complaint.

Room Tip: Higher the better. Lower rooms can have some ugly views.

When returning to Boston for MIT reunions we often stay on campus in the Marriott there - but this time we opted to stay in the Boston Marriott Copley Place. What a great selection as it allowed for easy walking to upscale shops in adjoining Copley Center, The Prudential Center, as well as Newbury Street - making it a a teriffic close choice when one tires of shopping/walking. The hotel itself had wonderful valet and cab service, the rooms were quiet and clean, and there are numerous public areas allowing for friends to meet.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a view of The Charles River. We found this on the 20th floor to be quiet an...

This Marriott is a traditional corporate hotel and even to the extent that the weekend rates were very expensive. The only complaint I had was that the Concerige lounge was being renovated and the elevators were very slow. Be aware of parking a car, as it was very expensive as well.

This hotel is really central with easy access to the Prudential Center, Newbury Street and the shops in the Copley Center. The nearest T station is in the Prudential Center and is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It is a large and busy hotel so you may wait some time for a lift or service at the front desk. The "lounge" area is essentially part of the thoroughfare for the shopping center so van be exceptionally busy. The queues at Starbucks are long at peak times. This is a hotel to use for either business purposes or shopping - you would not stay here for a quiet break!

Stayed at this property for five nights to attend a conference and visit my daughter. While I have been to Boston several times, this was my first stay at the Marriott. Centrally located. Front desk staff were exemplary, making check-in feel like a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons - obviously well trained and managed. Small lobby that is often quite crowded and loud. Rooms have been recently renovated, so both the furniture and soft goods are fresh. Great corner room on high floor with view of Back Bay and the Charles, but bathroom is tiny and ho-hum. The only restaurant is a combo sports bar. Cold breakfast buffet was way overpriced, though the staff were very friendly and polite. Instead go to the Au Bon Pain in either of the two adjacent retail centers - better selection and half the price. Also be sure to shop at Shaw's grocery store immediately across the street for bottled water and snacks. Lastly, for a great salad bar, check out the Blue Glass Cafe on the ground floor of the John Hancock, a couple blocks away. Instead of the Green Line at Copley, consider using the Orange Line at Back Bay Station. Just as close and faster.

I was in Boston at the Marriott Copley for the weekend of May the 3th 2012. We returned for just 1 night on May 7th in order to fly out of Boston the next day. At 11 am. when ready to leave the room the power went off for more than 90 minutes. I was amazed that the hotel didn't have or where not working the emergency power plants to be able to handle at least the elevators. I had to stay in my room for more than 2 hours until the hotel staff allowed me to go down using the elevators.

This can’t happen in a more than 40 floor hotel building in a 5 star hotel. It was extremely frightening. NO EVACUATION PLANS – NO STAFF TRAINED TO HANDLE THIS KIND OF EMERGENCIES.
