I got to live in Boston this year and thus had a home base to explore many local attractions and restaurants. But there are few photos more awesome than catching the gold dome of the statehouse with a pink sunset as you look up the hill from the Park Street MBTA stop.

This is a lovely building to visit. We had a very smart young guide and he was able to transmit his enthusiasm to the group. Really worth a visit!

I attended a ceremony there last month and arrived early. I used that time to walk around the inside of the State House. It is beautiful. The architecture is elaborate and the history of our great state was fascinating. It is worth a visit. I would allow about 30-60 minutes to tour the place.

A beautiful and historic building on Beacon Hill overlooking Boston Common. Located just a few steps from the Park Street T station.

This beautiful building can be seen from afar because of its beautiful dome. You are free to enter and walk just about anywhere. The atrium is magnificent, with beautiful glasswork immediately under the dome. Up on the 3rd floor, in the Chamber of the House of Representatives is the famous Sacred Cod, originally presented to the Old State House (beautiful from the outside, but largely given over to a souvenir shop) and which was moved when the new State House opened. Not to be outdone, on the 2nd floor, the other House installed the Holy Mackerel - a case of 'your Dad's bigger than my Dad', which is viewed with amusement by all the security staff there.

Walking around the outside of the building, it is possible to see a full length bronze of President Kennedy on the West Lawn, and a little further around is the apartment which he always kept up on the 3rd floor, looking across the gardens and now over the Fire Fighters' Memorial.

Just across the street is the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial - a bronze battle freize.
