“Boisterous Tapas Joint in Boston's South End”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

I recently dined with friends at Estragon. This Spanish Tapas restaurant is in Boston's restaurant-laden South End. The decor is casual and eclectic and reminds me of a Pedro Almodovar film. Cocktails are creative and the ones we had were spot on. The menus is designed for sharing as most are small plates. We had a generous sampling of the menu's offerings and were not disappointed by any dish. Especially delicious were the vegetable offerings especially the brussel sprouts (really!), fire-roasted peppers and asparagus. Service was speedy and knowledgeable. We were too full for dessert but that just means another trip back to Estragon!

“amazing food”
Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I were in Boston recently site seeing and stayed in a B n B near Estragon. We went in one evening unaware that it was Restaurant week. They had a special for a low price for 3 tapas per person, plus dessert. Everything was delicious, fresh made and ample in size. We are from Alaska and both agreed that it was some of the best scallops we have ever had, and we have had a lot. The shrimp and meatballs were both excellent as well. We would definitely return if we get back to Boston.

“They made a special night even more special”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Our daughter Katy and her boy friend Joe have been together for eight years. Recently they pleasantly surprised us by decided to "tie the knot". However, they weren't interested in any kind of a big and/or fancy wedding. After some thought they decided to have the wedding at one of their favorite restaurants (which had a room that could be separated from the main dining area). The management and staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Katy and Joe invited a group of approximately 30 friends and family. We had drinks with cheese and olive plates before the ceremony. After the ceremony we sat and shared Tapas, it couldn't have worked better. No one left the table hungry. The food was great as was the service!!
To top it off everyone knows parking in Boston can be a hassle, but not here. There is a public parking garage in the next block if you can't find a place on the street. Good food, good service and a place to park...who could ask for more in Boston??

“Nice date night restaurant”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

I purchased a Estragon voucher for $35 from bloomspot.com (up to $70 value) which was good for one Pintxas (tapas on toast) and 4 tapas dishes from a menu with several different choices. My wife and I visited the restaurant at 6:15pm on 3-9-13 after making reservations on opentable.com. The location of ths restaurant is definitely not in a hot spot. Parking for $7 is available in a public parking lot right next to the restaurant, although you might try your luck at getting one of the parking meters which requires no fee after 8pm.

The great meal more than made up for the location. The restaurant was lowly lit (good for a date) and the service from our waiter was very good and attentive. Our choices were:

#1 Pintxtos (tapas on toast) $8: Smoked salmon, white asparagus, aoli, roasted red pepper. This plate included a long piece of bread with toppings. It was a nice starter and was cut in half by me for us to share.

#2 Pescados (seafood) $11.50: Sauteed garlic shrimp. This plate included a dish of about 15 medium-sized semi-spicy shrimp in a buttery sauce. This was served with a side of a small loaf of bread which I sliced up and we enjoyed with the buttery shrimp.

#3 Pescados $14.50: Seared scallops, saffron albarino cream, fried leeks. This plate included 3 large scallops.Very tasty. By now, my wife is starting to get full. She could not finish half of the garlic shrimp.

#4 Carnes (meat) $14: Goat cheese stuffed chicken breast, bechamel, chili-peach coulis. Excellent dish. The medium-sized breast was lightly breaded and the goat cheese stuffing was delicious.

#5 Carnes $12: Braised chicken, almond-saffron-sherry cream, serrano ham, hard boiled egg. The final dish was just as tasty as the 4 dishes before it.

#6 Dessert: We decided on the flan ($7). It was unfortunate to end the mail on a low point but the flan was a very, very small portion for $7. I know it's a tapas restaurant, but come on!

Despite the flan, we had a great time and a very enjoyable meal. We will likely come back again. My final bill was about $8 after redeeming to the voucher. With no voucher, the same meal would have cost $68 which is very reasonable for a nice enjoyable dinner for 2.

“Best Tapas Place in Boston!!”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

I have lived in Spain. I have eaten at all of the Spanish restaurants in Boston (and Brookline/Somerville.) Estragon is by far the most authentic, with the best menu and most fresh ingredients. (Most of the complaints I see are by people who do not know true Spanish tapas.) The staff is great and the place has a nice ambiance. Love. It.
