Owner description: Hallowed ground to baseball purists, this cozy, quirky park has been the Boston Red Sox home field since 1912. The most distinctive feature of this classic baseball park is the 37-foot-tall left field wall, known as the "Green Monster."

“Great atmosphere”

I was able to visit the stadium when no game in session, and it was great to walk around the stadium and see the Green Monster and view straight out on the fresh green.

“HEARTBREAK HOTEL”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

Wonderful fun unless Sox have a season like they did in 2012. Even the charms of Fenway couldnt bring me to it!

Out of towners who love baseball, it's a must see.

“Fenway Park (Shrine, perhaps, but lousy ballpark)”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

Ok. I may be prejudiced, not considering American League baseball the "true" game.

Fenway is one of two old legacy ballparks still in use. People love old things. Like Grandpa, and a place he used to go to watch the Red Sox lose.

Going to a game at Fenway Park, is for the most part, a lousy experience. First, driving there is godawful. There is very little parking, and if you do use one of the neighborhood lots, you'll be blocked in because they put cars in the rows! You're staying for all nine innings, like it or not. And paying dearly for the privilege. If you must go, park in some other part of town and take the T.

Getting in is an expensive proposition. Because they can only squeeze 30K or thereabouts into this bandbox, they have to charge through the nose. I think the Red Sox are the most expensive ticket in baseball as a result. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You'll walk in, and try to navigate through crowds and concession lines that choke the corridors under the stands. You might see fistfights break out, particularly after the locals get beered up. Beer is expensive, speaking of the golden beverage, but not much worse than the rip off prices being charged elsewhere. Getting rid of the beer isn't fun either. The restrooms are few, cramped, filthy, stinky, with leaky pipes. I'll get no more graphic than that, but I could.

Walking out, you'll see the beautiful field. And its all that. And the classic artifacts of Fenway: The Green Monster, The Pesky Pole, etc. Then you'll sit your butt down in one of those narrow seats, that were designed in 1918 to accomodate 1918 butts. There is not a lot of leg room either. Your knees will be bumping into someone's neck all game if you're not careful.

Sight lines vary from excellent to horrid. All ballparks have some excellent seats, and Fenway is no exception. But there are obstructed view seats galore, thanks to the poles supporting the grandstand. Obstructed view seats, I believe, cost just as much as unobstructed ones, so caveat emptor.

For the sake of Red Sox fans (and I'm not one), I hope they can figure out how to build a new ballpark. The fans (bless their hearts) are loyal, love and support the team. They should be able to sit in comfort in a modern ballpark....even if it has to be in the 'burbs like the Patriots. I've seen Fenway, and baseball fans should if they get the chance, but this place really should be torn down.

“Great Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

My fiancee and I visited Fenway on a quick getaway to Boston. Definitely worth it! The tour guide was super knowledgeable, and the history of the stadium is simply fascinating (even to a non-baseball fan like myself). The new museum at the end of the tour is really cool too - lots of bats, equipment and trophies from eras past. Everyone should visit & take the tour for sure.
