Owner description: The burial ground for famous American patriots like Paul Revere, John Hancock and Sam Adams, is also the final resting place for Mother Goose.

Happened across after leaving the public gardens. Was amazed by how much history can be discovered through the tombs. Could have spent hours there. Would definitely go back and recommend to visit. Great attraction because you can either walk through it and pause only at the parts that are of interest or spend much longer discovering all the history!

Enjoyed walking the grounds and reading the headstones. Samuel, Adams, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin's parents, Peter Faneuil are the famous ones. No charge to walk through.

I have twice been to this burying ground now. The first time I happened upon it while exploring between a Duck Boat Tour and a Harbor Cruise and had little time to devote to wandering thru the grounds. This time I was able to take more time and probably spent an hour give or take here. It is unbelievable to take into account all the important historical persons buried in this cemetery. Paul Revere, John Hancock and Samuel Adams are the most prominent. However, other persons of significance rest here as well. This includes those that were killed during the Boston Massacre, James Otis, a significant player in the Sons of Liberty, and Nathaniel Dawes who rode with Paul Revere on his "midnight ride". Also, others of importance buried here are a slave of John Hancock's believed to be the first African American buried in this ground, the person whose life Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote the Scarlett Letter and a person who may have been the person whom the Mother Goose children's stories were written.

This cemetery is very near Boston Common and is the last resting place of a number of famous early Bostonians including John Handcock, James Otis and Paul Revere. When you visit, get a guide from Jimmy Cole who stands outside the main gate. He not only tells you where the most notable colonists are buried but tells you about their lives, plus all sorts of interesting facts about their times. Right in the middle of the cemetery is a very prominent monument with "Franklin" on it. This is not the tomb of Benjamin Franklin but his parents. It is well worth a wander around which doesn't take long as it's quite small.
