Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. We actually did this over 2 different days and it's a lot of walking!! Comfortable shoes are a must. It was very interesting to know you were walking in the places where our country began.

Free walking trip, with a guide in full costume. Very very interesting and staff very knowledgeable, well worth a tip as they are all volunteers.

Although much history is represented on this trail, do take a tour. It's a great way to better understand early American history but don't expect the story to tell itself. Unless you're a scholar in this area, your memory is not nearly enough to know what you're seeing and understand what you see.

This is a good place to start if you want to better understand Boston and it’s place in the history of US.

We walked the Freedom trail on a cold and wet May day. A courtesy umbrella from the hotel saved the day and we walked several miles on the trail, stopping at all major sights which all had entry fees apart from USS Constitution which was excellent (photo ID needed). A good insight into the history of independence and the lead up to it. Great idea to have the red bricks along the trail to follow.
