Fun to navigate the little red brick trail and find your way to amazing historical sites of great interest and beauty.

We did not use a tour guild but did the walk ourselves, printing off the map and about .5 to 1 pages of information about each spot along the trail. I read the summary to the family as we reached each spot. Apparently there is a pre-made kit you can get for this but I didn't realize that at the time.

The trail is clearly marked on the streets as a red line of either paint or brick, but we ended up using the GPS on our phone more than anything. The areas were not hard to find, but in the beginning we did not realize the trail was marked.

It took us about 5 hours to walk the trail but we stopped for lunch and were side tracked by a number of other things during that time as well. Keep in mind this is a lot of walking, the Freedom Trail is about 2.5 miles long and that does not include walking around at each location or side trips.

There are many, many places to stop along the to get something to eat. We chose Regina's on Thatcher Steer in the Italian part of the city, just a little ways off the trail. It is apparently the oldest pizza shop in Boston and defiantly worth a visit.

There are bathroom facilities at a few of the locations along the trail, but other than that bathrooms facilities are limited.

A few of the stops along the trail have admission fees between $3-$10/person (cash only) others are free. We only entered one or two other the admission sites, since we didn't have cash on us until about halfway through the tour. But in most cases admission into these places is not really necessary to enjoy them, more of an added bonus.

Everyone really enjoyed this, even the teen in the group who wanted to keep in information pack afterwards.

If you remember anything about early American history, you want to check this out. It is a long, full day, and you must be ready to walk a lot, but it is worth seeing. The trail takes you through the heart of Boston and ends over in Charlestown, which has a lot of character. Bonus: Takes you through the "Little Italy" area where you can have your pick of plenty of great restaurants, many with open air patios.

I think every city should consider to do a line on the ground connecting all city attractions and must see. This is so helpful.

We like the USS Constitution, Bunker Hill, and Old North Church the best. I wish I had been able to find the ferry from Long Wharf to the USS Constitution. We ended up walking twice from and to downtown. It was a lot of walking.
