Although I have hiked this trail before, it had been some time and it was great to experience all of the buildings and history.

Follow the line marking the Freedom Trail to get a glimpse of a great deal of important American history. You can read about the trail and the stops online but here perhaps are some things you won't read.
Perhaps break the tour into a couple of days. It can take hours if you really want to appreciate each stop along the way and it can be hard to appreciate things with tired feet.
It gets busy in the afternoon with tour groups and individuals so it can be difficult to get close enough to read plaques.
There is a parking garage under the Boston Common that is quite convenient and reasonably priced. makes for a good starting point.
A few of the churches ask for donations. It is well worth it.
All in all, the Freedom Trail is definitely worth the time to visit.

This red brick line that winds throughout Boston is a great way to see the history of the city. From the Old North Church to graveyards and historic homes, the Freedom Trail is easy to find and follow.

You can take a guided tour, or walk the Trail on your own. I recommend taking all day if you do the Tour on your own. They ask for a small donation or a small fee when you go through a couple of the stops. Well worth the trip.
