I visited this aquarium in April 2013 and it was party closed due to renovations. Despite this it was a great afternoon with a good variety of sealife on display. The exhibitions were informative and well displayed.
Only two things I would say could be improved - make it a bit more obvious about the rays as we almost missed them (we found them on the way out instead of the way in) and the photographs we had taken on the way in were pretty expensive - it would be good if there was a cheaper option for electronic version or we could see the images on a screen before printing - so much ink and paper must get wasted on this everyday... I didn't want to buy a photo for $25 but I might have considered a low res version to my email account if it had been offered for $5 or something (like other places sometimes do).

I strongly recommend that you visit the aquarium when visiting Boston. With many attractions, in addition to the main aquarium building, you can enjoy the Simons IMAX Theatre and the New England Aquarium Whale Watch, two very cool features to participate.

I PET A MANTA RAY, GUYS! It was awesome. It was sort of slimy, but not really. And they swim up to you so it feels like it a fully consensual petting session. I also got to pet a small shark.

Okay so I wanted to mention that even though this place is under construction and the main large tank is empty, it's still a fascinating place that will hold your attention for at least an hour. The sea lions were awesome, there are a million different fish there - and even some sea turtles, and those puffer fish.

The only downside is that there are unfortunately other people there that also want to see the fish so you can't just stand and gawk. And there will be other people - adults even - who don't know what "PLEASE DON'T TAP ON THE GLASS" means, and you may even encounter a woman at the tidepool petting area who is essentially punching an anemone in the face.

This is a great aquarium, with wonderful displays. Unfortunately the penguins are "on vacation" and the large central tank is closed off, but there is still so much to see.
The display of jellyfish is breath-taking, and the seals are adorable.
IMAX is always worth the visit, and the combo tickets are good value.
Would recommend getting there early to avoid the queues (we then had a lovely walk through Rose Kennedy garden to the Boston Tea Party)

The attractions were fantastic. It was great fun for adults and kids alike. I recommend it as a stop in Boston especially if you are entertaining kids. The bundle with IMAX was a good mix. Enjoyed the 3 d movie. Worth giving it a try...
