Owner description: The site of a fort erected in 1634, Castle Island is a great place to walk, jog or just unwind and enjoy the view.

There is a very nice walking pass around Paradise Bay and the fort with great views of the Boston Harbor Islands. We came for the walk, but saw lots of people who came for the day to picnic and hang out. I think it would be a great place to watch the Constitution turn around on the 4th of July.

Castle Island is one of those places native Bostonians all know about, but rarely share with others! After living just 30 minutes outside of Boston for more than 20 years, I only discovered Castle Island a couple of years ago, and was amazed that I never knew about it. What's great about it: plentiful parking (especially before and after lunch); a great view of the harbor; an old fort, a great walking path that can be as long or short as you desire (quick stroll or power walk); lots of benches and picnic areas for people watching; and a convenient location adjacent to Sullivan's, a hot dog/hamburger shack that has been a Southie institution for decades (best known for its hot dogs & fries). The history of Sullivan's and Castle Island go hand in hand, and it's a wonderful spot to have lunch and spend a couple of hours enjoying a beautiful day away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Boston -- or the monotony of your usual surroundings. It's very easy to drive and park here (for free).

There are many lovely spots to walk the harbor; this one is South Boston's traditional respite from the city. If you aren't staying in the neighborhood, you'll need a car to get there. Nothing fancy about it. Just a well-loved spot for walkers, bathers, dog walkers, and leisurely fishing off the pier. Don't miss Sullivan's for speedy basic foods & ice cream. Note: planes fly regularly directly overhead, on their path into Logan. It can be loud!

This is a great year round spot to visit although summer is better than winter for obvious reasons. Always get a breeze on the water side. Great for kids, dogs, and general family outings, flying kites, fishing off the pierm reading a book, listening to music, long walks. If you like fast food, sully's is the best around. Always a line but moves quickly. Reasonable for food but the ice cream is a bit pricy for soft serve.

Been goin to Sullivans for over 50 years. The prices have gone up a little over the years but it is still the best deal in town .A family of four can eat for under 20 bucks.Beautiful scenery up at the castle and the people watching is even better.Stop by and enjoy a dog and some fries.
