Description: The stunning first floor restaurant in Boston’s Liberty Hotel, Scampo, is a culinary destination created by legendary chef Lydia Shire and The Lyons Group in April of 2008. In Scampo, Shire’s reputation for defying tradition translates into Italian-inspired cuisine unrestrained by borders, drawing on flavors from the Mediterranean and Middle East. Scampo is a reflection of Chef Shire: bold, red and full of energy. The contemporary space features shiny copper lanterns, a glowing orange bar and seating overlooking the mozzarella bar.

This excellent restaurant in the Liberty hotel was a wonderful surprise. The hotel used to be a jail and still has many of the trappings of said jail. It is right next to Massachusetts General Hospital . The hotel is beautiful. It is right near the Charles River and I am sure that many of the rooms have spectacular views. We went to the restaurant because we were at the hospital and had time between appointments. What a surprise to find excellent food, decor and service. I had bay scallops that were the best that I have ever had. We shared a salad to start and it too was excellent. We went back another time and once again had an excellent meal. I would recommend this restaurant highly.

Visited Scampo on a busy Thursday night last month... It's a happening spot! Very much a scene/atmosphere to see or be seen at...

Interesting design... Intriguing variety of seating areas: Bar, "Mozzarella" Bar, High top tables, and linen dressed dinner tables... (Looked as though there's outdoor dining during warmer months too)

Fantastic server... Wasn't too knowledgeable with the wine list, but relied on another staff member who made terrific recommendations...

"Cracklings & Hot Pepper"... An absolute MUST... I'm a huge WUSS when it comes to spicy food, but this was perfect... It had "heat", but not too spicy... Spaghetti, "cracklings" (fried pork skin), chopped jalepeños, garlic, and olive oil... Best appetizer I've probably ever had. (Available as an entree)...

"Lamb Pizza"... Lamb on a pizza?!? Don't be mislead... Without question; BEST... PIZZA...EVER... Ground lamb... Hint of mint... Garnish of super tiny goat cheese balls... Lamb had some "heat" But not spicy...

"Mozzarella w/ King Crab Cocktail"... Think that shellfish and cheese don't mix?!? THINK AGAIN! Avocado, Alaskan King Crab Meat, Wasabi Sauce, and fresh mozzarella... Remarkable...

While I don't appreciate "spicy" food, I learned to distinguish between "spice" and "flavor".... Who knew?

Very nice meal at Scampo. Had the swordfish; really outstanding. Very attentive service. Expensive, but worth it. Kind of noisy, though, and the wine list is pricey, but all in all a great dinner.
