Owner description: One of America's largest Chinese neighborhoods, Boston's Chinatown is located at the edge of the downtown shopping and financial districts.

I'm quite spoiled by the inexpensive Chinese food I can find in NYC Chinatowns. The Boston Chinatown is much smaller, but it has a good variety, and I found the seafood dishes a bit cheaper - the salt-n-pepper lobster lunch we had just 2 days ago cost us $9....and we had almost 1 whole lobster - you can't beat that....however, the same restaurant also advertised a regular 'twin lobster' dish for $19.99, which is almost 40% more than what you can find in NYC. The bottom line is, walk around (since the entire Chinatown is literally only a few blocks - mainly Kneeland and Beach streets) before you commit. Try the bakeries too, which I find to be a bit cheaper than NYC.

Unlike other places in Boston which have wide, clean pavements and elegant architecture, the Boston Chinatown is a dirty, disorganized, ramshackle collection of unattractive restaurants and shops which have no personality or cultural refinement. You don't miss much if you haven't visited it.

It's pretty sketchy here, and if you walk down the streets, you see dead animals hanging in the window. The food is good and tends to be cheap, as are the shops.

A little small and I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to look around if I was a tourist, but it is a great place for locals to find that perfect imported tea, etc.
