“Siao Long Pao is the best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2014

Siao Long Pao or pork soup dumplings is the best that I have ever eaten. Better than in LA or Joe Shanghai of NY. Make sure that you have the chinese soup spoon when you eat it because the soup will spill out, it is very juicy. No need to use the ginger vinegar-soy sauce that they provide. I tried the vegetable dumplings, they are not as tasty. I also ordered oyster pancake which has more starch than oysters. But definitely come for the soup dumplings. They are the best in US.

“Try Everything with a Group of Friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014 via mobile

The Gourmet Dumpling House has a huge variety of tasty platters to choose from. I love coming here with at least one other person so you can sample at least two dishes in one sitting.

A few favorites of mine include the soup dumplings (pork, especially), scallion pancakes, pan-friend noodles, and pretty much anything else you could dream of.

What I especially enjoy about GDH is that I'm happy to explore beyond my comfort level and try new plates like chilled jellyfish because I (for the most part) trust the quality because it tastes so good and seems fresh. Mmmm! Definitely worth the wait no matter what time of day or night it is.

“NOMS, hole in the wall-esque, dumpling place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

Very small place. You may share a table with strangers- not a big deal. $20 minimum on credit cards. Since I was dining alone (and no way I could eat $20 in dumplings!) the lady was very nice and allowed me to use my credit card without hitting the minimum. So- I ordered the scallion pancakes and the juicy pork dumplings. There is also a delicious tea (of unknown variety?) that they serve to all tables. The scallion pancakes were crunchy on the outside and perfectly chewy on the inside. Dipped in the sauce- perfect hot, slightly greasy, savory pancake. You will want all of it in your belly. The dumplings come 8 per order. They are very filling and, well, very juicy, as the name implies. I made the rookie mistake of not using the soup spoon to eat them, so the juices were lost to the plate, which you then want to lick up-- so learn from me and use your spoon! I will be back for more dumplings.

“why the rave reviews?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014

this restaurant has the longest lines of any place in chinatown. and not sure why! the food is just ok. it is fairly cheap however. it is so small with tables placed so close to each other that i find it uncomfortable to eat there. service is harried and rushed. one of our dishes, a whole fish, was all bone and had a very unpleasant sauce. my partner is Taiwanese, so we know good Taiwanese fare...and this dish was awful. other items on the menu are ok...some better than others...nothing exceptional. perhaps quality has suffered as the populairty of the place has grown?

“amazing food with reasonable prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

I have been to Gourmet Dumpling House several times. First of all, the food here is thoroughly satisfying and very affordable. The juicy dumplings are a must try. They are a good size, big enough to contain a decent amount of soup but not too unwieldy. The dumplings get most of the praise at this spot, but my favorite dish here is the fried chicken Szechuan style. This is bone-in fried chicken with a spicy batter and no sauce. It is perfect. Moist on the inside, spicy and crispy on the outside. Give me that, an order of the juicy dumplings, and a giant Tsing Tao and I'm all set. The beef with longhorn peppers is also very good. It is very spicy and sticks to your ribs.

This restaurant is no frills. It has little in the ways of decor. It is on the crowded Beach Street in Chinatown and is small. It is hard to get a table for a large party (by large I mean around 8 people). The wait staff is decent, but not too attentive. The atmosphere can get pretty noisy. Also, the restaurant does not take reservations so when its busy there is a usually a group of people waiting outside in the street. It is worth the wait if you have the time. They also seem to have some very affordable lunch combinations.

All in all, Gourmet Dumpling house offers an extensive menu, delicious food, and low prices.
